Yeah man - just because there is some damage involved when a certain thing is abused doesn't mean that no one should do it by any means. Alcohol causes hella brain damage when abused, but I would never say no one should ever drink. But I don't think it's right to pretend like it's all fun and games, either.
I am not calling myself unquestionable by any means!! and i do not want to come off as a know-it-all prick like some of the other ppl ive seen on these forums...i just know a great deal on this subject, and IMO**, if ur brain adjusts and returns to ur "normal" state of functioning, it's not damaged. if u can argue that, go ahead. LSD does not kill ur brain. If you have predispositions to psychosis, then LSD can exacerbate that, as im sure everyone knows. but ur already rearranged in some sort of way for that to happen. Take my opinion for whatever you want, i was just offering some insight on what I know. and ppl DO KNOW what/where LSD goes in ur brain, they just dont kno y it causes what it does. if LSD caused brain damage, everyone would have it. u drink alcohol, u kill brain cells, one time, 10000 times, doesnt matter, it only changes the amount...not to mention ur liver. smoke, tar will build in ur lungs, no matter how much u smoke, there will be some there. look at hofmann's track record and tell me LSD causes brain damage. takes much more than a bunch of opinions to change my mind about this. I know what ive researched. please dont discount my knowledge.
Going back to the original point of contention though, there is no way that I can possibly imagine HPPD as being fun. An acid trip, and for that matter, a mushroom trip as well, is the same thing as schizophrenia. Both operate on an over abundance of seratonin. Anyone who eats acid does so on the assumption that they will return to their wits after a few hours. When that doesn't happen I can only imagine how difficult it would be to deal with. As far as I'm concerned, the only difference between a bad a case of HPPD and schizophrenia is their origin.
i dont think they operate on an abundance of serotonin...and there is much more of a difference between schizo and HPPD than origin. Schizophrenia is much more severe and involved delusions/hallucinations/feelings/voices and HPPD is more visual and not really involving the headfuck of the trip. Ecstasy provides an abundance of serotonin which gives the "rolling" and extremely euphoric feeling. I have spoken w/ people that have had HPPD that said it was a nice break and like a free trip...especially since it doesnt have the mentally draining aspect of tripping
Well granted schizophrenia tends to be more intense, but not all cases of schizophrenia involve auditory hallucinations, just as not all cases of HPPD are minor. The fact is, the predominant theory in contemporary neuroscience is that schizophrenia is caused by an overabundance of serotonin. When you drop acid, it has the effect of mimicking exactly that situation. The same is true of psilocybin, DMT, and mescaline. Judging by the symptoms of HPPD the only logical conclusion IMO is that for whatever reason, these conditions persist after the drug has been metabolized. Therefore, HPPD is essentially a mild case of schizophrenia that has its origins in drug use as opposed to genetics.
schizophrenia doesnt go away tho. and i thought schizophrenia was caused by problems (whether it be excess/just general disregulation) in the dopamine pathway, not serotonin. and schizophrenia, ime more often than not involves delusions, hallucinations (auditory and visual), and several other serious symptoms that venture into social and emotional issues. To say HPPD is just a mild case of schizo seems a little extreme, tho it does show some similar symptoms only in the visual sense, HPPD is almost always strictly visual distortions isn't it? and the visual distortions seen from HPPD are certainly not similar to those of schizophrenia from my understanding.
lol...it's cool...if u like this stuff u should stick w/ it man....chemistry blows but its only 2 yrs....gen n orgo
Lil late now... I'm nearing the end of my sophomore year. The weird thing is my Dad is a chemistry PhD, but I definitely did not get that gene.
lol...still time, u dont have any chem yet under ur belt? i wish my dad knew something about any science...lol
chemestry is something im interested in. but would never be good at it. but back to hppd. i have it mildy. for a year now ive felt weird. like in a dream. or like everything was fake. or like i was dissconnected from my body. idk. i cant explain it. i wasnt even from lsd or anything intense. idk. lost grip with reality it seems. help me get back.
HPPD is nothing like schizophrenia. It's basically a visual phenomenon. It is not uncommon for schizophrenics, depending on the type, to spend all day motionless and staring at the window, or to talk to themselves constantly, having conversations with the voices in their head. Also, schizophrenia can, for the most part, subside, although really only in mild cases. Schizophrenia often comes in waves, too, in the milder cases. Sufferers could go for a few months with little ill effects only then to embark on a "bad trip" for a while before returning back to relative stability. Schizophrenia is very poorly understood. Really shitty illness.
i dont have schizophrenia if thats what ur implying. i cant really explain what im feeling. it might just be enlightenment. ive been thinking about everything and connecting things and figuring things out.
I know what you mean by your feelings, definitely not schizophrenia. I define it as a more intense enternal awareness of everything including self and surroundings.
Didn't say you did. I was only saying the two are similar based on the faulty premise that schizophrenia was caused by excessive serotonin levels. Turns out my memory failed me and schizophrenia is actually caused by excess dopamine levels so I retract my previous statements.
if youve taken ecstacy youd quickly wonder how schizophrenia could ever be cuased by high serotonin levels.. if anything schizophrenics would have much lower serotonin levels
LOL, that's because it's not. It's caused by high dopamine levels, and I was remembering incorrectly.
