I should have titled this thread "Customer service tactics", cuz that's what I was curious about... I wasn't curious about the weather.. or maybe I could have put it in quotes, "How's the weather?"

When I was working at a callcenter for customer service (also for a phone company) I didn't had any tactic except to help the calling customer and get on to the next one. I didn't work there for long though (you had to do quite some multitasking, especially with a serious problem, and I did not show much talent :D), but I definitely learned that when you get a clumsy or not so fast solving person on the phone when you call for phone/service problem it is worthwile to avoid yelling or insulting as it won't get you faster what you want in any way. Actually, I got a lot of patience with them afterwards. And sympathy too I guess :p You might have no idea what kind of people they get on the phone all day.

I don't think I was an asshole to the customer service, btw... I had a really bad day (don't wanna get into it) and I was really busy and he was just asking me to answer a bunch of things that weren't needed... and then he even wanted me to get the serial number from the phone. They have this all on my account though.... and then I was outside on my roommates phone cuz that's the only place that phone gets reception... so my phone was inside.. I told him that if I go inside to get the other phone then the call would be lost... lol then he said "Please Marilyn, I need you to get the phone." I felt like I was on the phone with 911...... so I just put the other cell phone on hold outside and got the phone... I really needed to go take care of my kids at this point and since I've been having horrible service with the phone I said "Basically, I just want a refund on the payment I just made because the phone service isn't working"... I've been getting delayed texts and all of my calls have not been coming through.... so that's when he said he can do that and asked me how the weather was... I was just going to cancel my service with them, at least for a little while..... I thought he understood that... I wanted to get a different phone, maybe that's the problem... well, they refunded my money and also kept my phone on... I guess I get a month free of service, so that's pretty cool.....

I'm usually nice to customer service.. I've been there too, not phone customer service, but I've worked at a book store and clothing store... People are difficult to deal with...
And this just reminded me, last night I had a dream where I was ordering coffee and a sandwich and there were two girls behind the counter... one was such an asshole and kept commenting the other girls work...I felt bad for the girl and so I left her a $20 tip and a note that said something along the lines of "your co-worker sucks"...ha ha..
Also, a couple of years ago, I was getting books at the bookstore I used to work for, and the customer ahead of me was so angry about something that wasn't the cashiers fault.. the cashier looked like she was about to cry.. there are these really tasty lindt chocolates and the counter and so I bought the cashier some and told her I used to work here.
