When I was a kid, my friend and I had a whole secret language similar to this: except we pronounced words the way they were spelled.

At times like this, etymology can be helpful.
Much of those posts are due to an accent making a word's pronunciation sound as though it is different from its actual spelling.

Easiest example, just up this page is priddy/pretty.
The word is pretty in both instances but the persons accent makes it sound 'd' instead of 't'.
So, if someone, somewhere in the US, says priddy, but another in CA says pretty, it doesn't mean there's two words and it doesn't mean 'priddy' is correct.
