All of you that got back more than you paid in, you're welcome. I bleed and sweat for the money the gov't steals from me so spend it wisely
Tell me about it : / I do think Child tax credit should be means tested more severely - but I understand what it is for, and have no real issue with it. If it's being offered why not take it? More than £7bn tax credits including child tax credits, working tax credits and pension credits have gone unclaimed as British taxpayers fail to take advantage of the help available to them. Unbiased.co.uk's latest Tax Action report revealed that income-related tax credits – that is tax credits that are means tested – make up the majority of the £12.6bn tax wastage in the UK. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/...bn-means-tested-tax-credits-go-unclaimed.html
I understand it, even though every single person I know with kids uses it to buy shit like TVs. Or things their kids won't necessarily benefit from. But it beats someone being on welfare, and if I had kids of course I would take that deduction.
I qualify for that credit, but I'm still not getting back more than what I paid. I'm not even getting back ALL that I paid. Just a little over $2000, maybe I should go to someone to do my taxes for me, instead of using Turbo Tax.
That's what I do, and I think I'm getting screwed. I paid in a shit ton and still owed more. I had a pretty good year so who knows. Either way, I got raped with no lube.
I think the phrase is 'ass-backwards' Changes to tax credits: calculate what it will mean for your family Changes to tax credits came into effect on 6 April 2012. Families with high childcare costs and couples working from 16 and 24 hours a week between them are most affected. The tax credit calculator shows that a family with a stay-at-home mum and a dad working part-time on £19,000, a 12-month-old child and a 4-year-old will gain £191 from changes in the personal allowance by April 2013, but lose around £4,500 – 24 times as much – from tax credit changes. • Universal credit • Child benefit changes A two-earner family (combined income £40,000) with two children and childcare costs of £300 a week will gain the maximum possible from the personal allowance increase (£381) but still lose six times as much (£2,312) from tax credit changes.
About unemployment: I haven't drawn it in 10 mos. I can't speak for all states, but in SC you most certainly are not able to sit on your ass and "do nothing" to get your check. You have to look for 4 jobs per week, and one of those jobs must be looked for through their data base/internet search, regardless of whether you qualify. I've heard that before you reach the end now, you are supposed to look for 5 jobs per week. You are not supposed to look for more than one job per day, and you provide plenty of information as to where you went. In other words, if you are lying, you have to provide them with enough info to easily be caught. At least I did have enough sense to have them take out taxes...you have the option not to. Off hand, I don't remember what it was, but it wasn't much. However, the taxes taken out on the unemployment were MUCH more than the taxes taken out by the sorry ass retail corporation. I worked for a short time (before my accident) and had only made a total of $600...it was part-time. ANYWAY, those asses only took out .50...fifty cents. That $600 wasn't much, but that is definitely enough to take out more than fifty cents! I did not claim any dependents.
Really? I always pictured you a full blown cracka. And now that you mention it, it probably is the same. I don't know to be honest. They could be keeping track of it for census data.
do some people actually get back more than what they paid? i thought this was just a "tax refund," which would, by definition, not be able to pay out more than what was initially paid in. if people are actually profiting off it, it's more like "spring welfare bonus" or something.
'fraid not. I guess it might be little 'PC' to spend a few seconds considering if it is the same for all single people with no children. Probably.
Oh yes. Between exemptions like earned income credit and childcare credit it can definitely happen. That's why a lot of people keep popping out kids.
i know this is the case in ohio too. i ran into it all the time when i was a pizza place manager. about once a day someone would come in and say "hey, can you sign this paper for me saying i tried to get a job here?" the easiest thing to do would be to sign the damn paper so they would move on and not bother me anymore. i literally never had someone legitimately apply for a job, and then ask me to sign their unemployment paper.
LOL, spring welfare bonus. I never thought people could get more back than what they paid. I still can't understand the logic behind it, but google says it happens, so it must be true.
Lynnbrown We have similar requirements here. But they don't seem to be overly concerned about if you have actually contacted that many employers. Well, not for the first couple of months. When I wasn't for about 6 months they never checked. I think if you look like you've not been drinking and look clean and smart - they let you get on with it for a time. After 6 months that's when they start calling you in for interviews and scrutinising your efforts to find a job. I used to fill in the forms while waiting to be called to sign on If you are not working you get 71 pound a week and 3/4s of your rent paid for you. You can work upto 16 hours a week with out signing off - but if your income is above 71 pound you don't get any benefits at all - including housing benefit. So you have to survive on approx 280 pound a month. It's certainly not that generous.
