    Yup, its definately 42!
    That's the only plausible explanation.
I Have been down way more than 42 roads,
I have also hitchhiked/hiked on at least 5 different rt.42's.
My Appalachian Trail name is 42 as well,
does this make me a man?

The answer is actually 7 like I voted for, the answer WAS blowing in the wind but I ran after it and caught it midair, the paper had the question with the answer 7, written on it

How many licks does it take to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop?
    Lets find out!
Only the owl says three, three seems a little easy, as does 7 and 12.
Driving would be way to easy as well, and if he drove he would miss out on a lot of cool stuff.
From the multiple choice answers, I believe that blowin in the wind is the most plausible. Basically it states that the answer is in fact blowin in the wind, and one must chase it down, in order to find the answer one must start walking down the road.
I think the answer is different for everyone,
    Personally, I think it's 42,
but the world may never know!
(Coincidentally, this just happens to be my forty second post on hipforums!)

well i would say when he is confident enough to walk down a road entirely his own. i don't mean land ownership. i simply mean fallowing that path in life that is uniquely what his inner connectedness to all that no one has ever immagined and all the they, or at lest he, has, moves him consciously and responsibly in the direction of.

there is only one road, yet for each of us it is a completely different road.
rather there are many roads, but wherever we go, that is the one road the we each ourselves travell.

it's a fun retorical question, but to me, this is the ultimate, as ultimate as anything can be, answer to it.
