Could you really afford it to just visit a store and buy some jeans, tops and shoes? I have my doubts ... Well, to be honest, I can't imagine. But last winter is not next winter. You wrote that your clothes are threadbare and have holes. What will be the condition of your clothes in six month? Your position seems a bit naive to me ... Okay or nice? Are you really happy with your situation? ?!? And what if your only pair of pants rips apart? What then? No, that wouldn't be the sole consequence. *facepalm* You never felt sad because of your clothes? You never hesitated to do what you actually wanted to do because of your clothes? What about the reaction of other people. You say you don't care. Okay. But is that really so? Everytime?
Manu, I discussed the sandals in the math section/cost per wear. I bought, new, rugged sandals that handle town and city walking, hiking, running across land (I was a reporter and got a lot of wild land fire stories), wading through water, and didn't look out of place short of fancy dress. I'm inclined to be barefoot, but the shoes come along. I added fleece or wool socks. When I moved to a snowy area, I did get snow boots for my commute- a mile and a half on foot in all weather, including deep snow. They were worn only for the walk, not in the office. You asked what I'd have worn without a job? I couldn't say. Without the jobs, I would not have afforded school. I held down two most of the time and three on occasion. Plus I was raising my son. On my days off, I wear a pair or trousers, or a skirt, a shirt, and sandals if I'm leaving the house.
Two pairs of shoes seven shirts seven pants. Less clothes just makes it easier to pack up nd leave. Yes I own intamites as well around ten each well no... twelve I think
at the moment? no. its end of the month and i am broke. but there are times when i could afford at least used clothes. i just dont want to spend money for clothes if i have not absolutely to do so. i need shoes for next winter and something warm to wear like a coat. but i dont want to buy more so my old stuff will have to do. yes. if it were else i would change it wouldnt i? at the moment i have 2 pairs. but in that situation i would try to sew them of course. i dont take care so much about possible consequences. if you think so. i am used to it. no i just go everywhere wearing that what i have. if people have problems with that its their problem. yes. you see if people judge me only because of my clothes than that is really their problem not mine. i know a lot of people and perhaps they think i am not quite normal of course but they like me. and i like them. its okay for me.
i really like to be barefoot. okay if i would have to walk over a mile in deep snow in winter i would have boots too i think. you cant be without it in that situation i think? but i dont need to walk much in deep snow so in winter it was okay even with my ripped shoes. i think i could wear flipflops if i dont get real shoes for next winter. i just have not to walk much if i dont want.
Well, I had frostbite as a kid, so extended exposure has to be in boots, or at least well wrapped in wool/fleece. I like having my toes!
Yeeesh I couldn't count. Every year or so I take a huge bag of oldies down to the Salvation Army bin and what available space is made in my cupboard is soon after stocked back with new clothes.
thats sad. what kind of shoes did you wear back then? me too. ;-) good thing is here we have not much snow in winter. and now its quite warm so you need not much clothes. i dont want to think about cold weather now. ;-)
so you spend much money for clothes? i dont want to do that. i never did perhaps thats why i have another opinion on this than most people. would be interesting to hear if someone here has also very few clothes like me.
I have far too many clothes that I don't wear anymore. Some fit me. others don't. Some are just outdated & should be given away.
I'm ashamed to say, I took off barefoot in deep snow. I thought that since I was on horseback, it wouldn't matter, because my feet wouldn't be in The snow. (We were helping a neighbor rescue some animals in the storm.) however, the air temps were so low, and I was such a bouncy rider that my feet were flailing all about. So I have a neat scar on one instep. Mostly faded, but makes me stay aware. As I said, I like my toes. I happen to love snow, as well.
So, Manu, and others, how often do you wash clothing? One reason I have what I have is so I'm not a slave to laundry. I can go a full week at minimum and three at maximum.
My work clothing gets washed daily & other things get washed if they look dirty or just need it. We use our washing machine daily & sometimes do up to 3 - 4 loads on some occasions. A certain brand of washing machine can be easily made to play the national anthem of NZ or Australia - true fact to !
ohh. in that circumstances i would not go out barefoot or with broken shoes. i am happy that here were i live there is not much snow in winter. ouch. i also like snow. but only if i can stay inside and not when i have to go out. even when there is not much snow on the ground i get wet feet instantly in my broken shoes so i like it more when it is dry. ;-)
i am lazy. the last time i washed something is about one and a half week ago. so i have to wash a few things maybe today in the evening. most of the time i wash my stuff by hand in the sink. it is much more cheaper than take everything to the self service laundry. i think i will wash one or two tops this evening and one of my pants so i have clothes for the next 3-4 days. in the past as i had a few more things i did laundry every two to three weeks. now i have to do it more often.
Mainly a pair of jeans or old corduroy pants, the basic jogging sweater of course or just a t shirt. Also have a blouse or 2. I wear shoes as well. Not so worn down as yours as it seems although I generally make them last for sure :2thumbsup:
See, I don't want my clothing to limit me. I'd rather limit my wardrobe! So, I only keep functional items. I have to be out in the snow. I can't resist the siren song of the silence, the extra clear stars at night, and how clean the air is. Add a mountain stream, and I'll be out all day. So I budget for snow boots. I get a pair about every seven to eight years. At that point, my boots will spring leaks I can't repair, and while I do know a local cobbler, he doesn't work on padded, non leather boots. He points out his services are far more expensive than a new pair. Considering I've been in the same sandals since 1998, I don't sweat the boots' expense. I tend to hand wash on alternate days because I'm lazy enough, or unmotivated enough, really, to not want to wash more than two or three items. Underthings are washed daily. Usually they are dry by morning. This category I have more than a weeks worth. Straying from the topic some, I have to use a machine once a week for cloth dinner napkins, kitchen towels and cleaning rags, and shower towels/washcloths. If the machine wasn't onsite where I rent, I'd likely wash those by hand, but I don't feel I do the towels well by hand. Agitation helps a lot. Everything gets rack dried indoors.
i dont wear shoes at the moment. i like to be barefoot. i will put me feet in shoes again in spring at the earliest. my shoes are really worn down. falling apart literally. dont know if they last the next winter i dont think so. so i think about buying some new or used shoes. but i dont know. i will decide when it is time for that. now i dont need shoes.
