I think it depends on a lot of factors (nationality, ethnicity, place of birth, religion, etc). I grew up in New York 30 years ago, and the general rules about this based on what I intuitively knew and remember from my friends (but didn’t officially know until years later) was this:

    1) If you were Jewish or Muslim you were ALWAYS circumcised.

    2) If they were Puerto Rican (or any Latin American), or Russian (or any eastern European immigrant), they were ALWAYS uncut.

    3) If they were black, biracial, or Italian, they had a 50% chance of being cut.

    4) If they were “white” (but not Eastern European), they were USUALLY cut.

    5) If they were Chinese they were uncut, but if they were Korean they were cut.

I’m uncut and I’m biracial. Most of the males on my dad’s side (white) are circumcised, while most of the males on my mom’s side (black) are uncircumcised. But I have a lot of black friends who are also circumcised. So between cousins and nephews, I grew up seeing both kinds frequently.

When I moved out of NY to less diverse states, I found that most guys in the US were cut and that people generally viewed being uncut as weird. After having grown up seeing both kind and then only seeing (or hearing about) guys being circumcised, I felt a little like the oddball. Then when I grew up I moved to Europe for a few years and found that every guy there was uncut, so I fit right in, lol. So it’s definitely a cultural thing.

I agree that 30 years ago and further, it seemed to be much more common in the United States to be circumcised. Since I’ve lived here again, I notice that a lot more guys (usually younger) are uncut, and also that people my age who have male kids are less likely to have them circumcised. So the culture must have changed sometime in the last 20 years here. I still think most guys here are cut, but it’s not a sure thing like it was back in the day.

I’m cut, I was when I was a child as there was something not right. Not sure what, when I see a uncut penis I wasn’t sure why I looked different. It was confusing

Circumcision is a travesty. Why we thought cutting off 1/3 of a boy's erogenous skin and leaving his head to dry out into leather was a wise thing to do is beyond comprehension.

But it not just boys teenagers get it done and men as well and there is a group of men who go round sites and try and take it over, they feel all men and boys should be cut.

I am pro circumcision but not to the point of disrespecting intact guys. But I will stand up to intactivists who are also intolerant to circumcision and speak half truths and outright lies about it and try to ban it.

But pro activists do just the same, just a bunch of wankers who think everyone should be cut, and what about the guys who get cut and don't like it?

Ok I see where you want to go with this and I'm not going down that rabbit hole. Find someone else to argue over circumcision. Good day.

  9. I had only ever been with circumcised men. So when my husband and I had our son, we had not really thought about it before hand and we just agreed to the circumcision when the nurse asked if we were getting it done. To us it just seemed like that was what we were supposed to do. I do wish I had known more about it then, I probably would have kept him intact but he has never complained or commented on what his preference would have been if he had been given a choice. All I can say, is that as a parent that now knows better, I wish I had left the decision up to him.

I don't know if they do it now but back then they really didn't give us any information about the pros and cons and they really should have. It is hard to make an informed choice without any information. At least now people can just look it up on their phones if information is not provided.

Honestly, I think most of us in the US pretty much just had it done as a matter of course - why? Everyone was doing it....knowing what I know today, I would never have had my son cut at birth - but again, that's what was just done - I personally never knew anyone that was uncut, other than probably my dad. I had no idea of its function. Luckily I was cut pretty loosely and was able to restore enough to keep things covered. In my personal experience - sensitivity went from black and white to color.

Not really any internet troll's business either way. Usually someone trying to stir the pot.

And yet you took time out of your day to specifically click on THIS particular question and answer it with a non-relevant response. That’s rich! Every answer on here is the business of everyone who chooses to contribute and participate. If you have nothing of substance to contribute but choose to offer your interpretation anyway, then you are the one who is stirring pots!

Politics, religion and circumcision. Each is an argument just waiting to happen. Can't we all just get along?

I don’t have a problem taking about any of those things (when the subject comes up). But that’s not really what this question was about. I was just trying to get some statistics because there seems to be a trend (that I’ve noticed anyway).

The subject just doesn't come up in the UK. Outside of Jewish and Muslim communities, very few are circumcised. These days, people shower every day, so those old fashioned points about hygiene etc are nonsense. It's just a religious thing.

Baby Boomers were predominately circumcised at birth. Religion and social pressures were the main factor in the decision by parents to do the procedure. Mine was driven more by family tradition and religion although protestant and not Jewish nor Islamic. My father was circumcised and so it was an easy decision. I never felt it and do not know the difference as my cock serves me well.

Am I mutilated? No. My penis looks just fine. I have had too many positive comments from women who tell me I have a beautiful penis. If I was mutilated they would not compliment me so.

Am I less sensitive? I can't tell you that I am or am not. What I do know is I derive a lot of pleasure from stimulation to the underside of the glans. My shaft isn't as sensitive and neither is the top side. Is that because of my circumcision? I have no way of knowing. But the underside forward most area, the glans, is where I feel the best sensations.

I have to say that while I appreciate much of what you said, this part right here is fallacious in numerous ways. I’m not saying you are mutilated, however IF you were mutilated living in a culture where everyone else around you was also mutilated, you wouldn’t see yourself as mutilated. It’s easy to see the mutilations when they occur in a culture outside of your own. This is why women in Africa who’ve been subjected to FGM do it to their daughters. They see it as normal and better, not as mutilation. Yet in western society, we see it as mutilation. Being that it’s completely subjective, that’s not a very good argument in support of it (if that’s what you were doing)!
