I would be amazed if it were legalized or even decriminalized in my own lifetime. There is such strong allegations against drugs in this country, at least illegal drugs, that it would be amazing if they actually did anything for "Pro-Pot" reeform. But hey, it they did, it would be nice!
ye here we actaully have a pro-pot party, kind of like mayors in america.... there groups of ppl who run the government an have a main spokes man which is our prime minister (like ur president). Just that i dont think they have much publicity an its kind of hard to detract ppl from votin for the main parties..........but there still in there
Younger people are always more liberal than older people. As the generation ages it gets more conservative. Think of all the baby boomers that did all those drugs in the 60s and 70s...they're the ones in government positions now. Guess what: even with that generation in power, weed is still illegal. I have my doubts about this stuff ever becoming legal in my lifetime, because people are so brainwashed by the propoganda that even looking back at the 70's drug culture, they are still able to say "weed is evil."
Exactly, and the election should have shown you that very clearly. It's not just rich old men, either. It's broke-ass middle-aged people. Which is hilarious, seeing as though they get no tax break from Bush, and get thier affordable medicaid blocked. Bush talking to Eli Lily, Pfizer and Glaxo-Smith-Kleine: "Okay, so if I get elected, you want me to block medicaid from Canada, and give you tax-breaks for upping the price of your medication? And in return you'll fund my campaign, and give me behind-the-back funding? Sounds like a win-win to me!" You have to look back to the late '30s when William Randolph Hearst and Lamont Dupont felt threatened by Marijuana's fast rate of production and output for several different purposes. Hearst owned hundreds of logging companies, as well as several well-known papers to spread propaganda about the drug. Lamont Dupont owned a synthetics and chemical company (yes, Dupont Chemicals and Synthetics of today) and ofcourse he was threatened by Cannabis' use for synthetics. Hearst also owned Hearst Productions, which produced a little movie called "Reefer Madness". Remember that movie? Pretty sad, yes. Ofcourse, Hearst and his friend Roger Miller of the treasury department, which created the Federal Bureau of Narcotics (which is now the Drug Enforcement Agency), appointed Hearst's friend Harry J. Anslinger commissioner. He was the first drug czar in this country. Anslinger spent 90 seconds in front of congress in 1937 convincing them that Marijuana was the source of violence in our country and played to thier fear as white men saying, verbatim, "it makes white women lay with Niggers". Basically he used fear mongering. He talked about the violent ancient Arabic tribes in Turkey who slaughtered people, who were "marijuana addicts". Yes, and ofcourse at the period in time, tribes like that were really rare, so it must have been the Marijuana. lol He also said that Egypt was full of Marijuana addicts and that Marijuana was bound to do the same to America. With this fear mongering he successfully passed the 1937 Marijuana Tax Act, which effectively illegalized Marijuana in this country. And why? Because his corperate friends and thier corperate friends were afraid of hemp's production. The sad part is that we never fully got around to using our brains, and everyone still believes the propaganda. Most politicians, like Eddie hinted at, probably don't fear the drug so much as speaking out in it's favor in Congress. In the 1970s we came close to legalization, I mean, in 10 states Marijuana was decriminalized, and in California the fine for anything under an ounce of Marijuana was only $15.00, so that's when people started getting really hopeful. I remember in Cheech and Chong's Nice Dreams when Chong is like "Yeah, I figure when pot's legal in 10 years...". lol Yeah, when pot was legalized in 1980. Our country is run by corperations, and the heads of those corperations have private interests to protect, and while there are still private interests to protect, Marijuana will never be legalized. We could use Cannabis for oil and not have to shop around with O.P.E.C or O.P.E.A.C., but that would not work out for Halliburton or Harkin Energy. We could use Cannabis for synthetic paper, and stop chopping down our beautiful trees, but that wouldn't fly with the American Logger's lobby. You see how this works now? Marijuana will never be legal in America, and therefore not be legal in any country that relies heavily on our support. It will be legal the day white men stop believing that their profit is more important than people's freedom, and saving our planet.
Right. MusicMan's post was very true, but also remember, we might be soon facing severe oil shortages, and who knows what shit will start going down when that happens. With all the unrest that's likely to occur, new possibilities may start being considered, including hemp. Fuck, I'm all for hemp being legalized to farm even if the marijuana/drug aspect isn't. It could really save our forests from getting cut down...and it's far, far easier on the soil than cotton plants are (cotton depletes the soil of nutrients, and leads to massive erosion).
I don't know. Remember the oil shortage under Jimmy Carter when we lost ties with O.P.E.C? No one considered hemp. I think they'd let us all ride bikes before using hemp for oil; they're that anal about it. It's good for a pothead to say something as selfless as you said, though. A lot of potheads don't care about medical Marijuana, or it's usage for oil or synthetics. If they can't smoke it legally, who cares if it's made legal and helps people in other ways?
Well, maybe it's all exaggerated, but the oil shortages being talked about aren't from embargos, just that we won't have any left. That'd be rather permanent. And even so, during the embargo (which we knew probably wouldn't last forever) people were buying compact cars, carpooling, driving less, walking...so even something like that did enact a change. the problem is that we forgot the value to conservation when the embargos ended and the oil again flowed like water.
You forgot about the alcoholic beverages companies, Anheuser-Busch etc. They are the biggest anti-drug program supporters. So we all need to stop drinkin, and then weed will be legal. Perfect!
Yeah, it is amazing to me that someone, such as a politician, rich s.o.b., mayor, etc... can drink their worries away, get in a car and kill someone, yet if I smoke a hooter I am some terrible person who must have absolutely no morals??????????????????????? LMAO Hmmmm, and what about all that religious crap, you know, how this country was founded on Christianity. My ass. This country was founded on FREEDOM from religion. That means that what I believe may not be what you believe but who I am to tell you that you can't smoke a big fatty? or that you can't have your gay marriage etc...... It's all gotten WAY out of hand.
