Me? Oh hardly ever. I can count on one hand how many times I have McDonalds in a year! We rarely eat fast food.
Oh, and we use the energy efficient compact fluorescent lightbulbs. We've got those in all of the lights here, even the garage/porch lights, everywhere. They cost a bit more, but they last a lot longer.
I don't even care about recycling. I litter all the time, and I'm sure I've wasted about a lake worth of water. Fuck it.
Urgh. Litter here is so insanely bad. Take our school for example, it is clean in the morning, by the end of breaktime it is a tip. There are tonnes of bins around but people cannot be bothered to walk just a few metres to chuck their stuff away.
i recycle.. separating plastic prom paper. i shower once every other day. i'm actually not a real water-user, but i don't really attempt to be, with my showering habits and like my washing machine is HE and we have an eco friendly dishwasher. if i need to get somewhere i usually walk (unless i need to go to school or outside of my 3 mile radius.. then i get my mom to drive me)
I'd say I was pretty eco-friendly for having a large family. I am off grid / solar. I grow, raise and hunt alot of my own food, have my own water supply, heat with wood and have a composting toilet. I also recycle and reuse. My bad is the 4wd truck I drive to and from work in the winter, but I do carpool.
On The Positive Side.......For 25 Years Most Of This House Has Run Off Alternative Energy Except For The Really Big Applianances Like Fridge, Waterbed, Plasma T.V. I Have 450 watts Of Solar Panels, 48 Batteries, A 1000watt Wind- Generator, And A 1000watt, 12volt To 240volt Inverter. Water Is Supplied By A 12volt Water Pressure Pump. Ever Since I Built This House No Light Has Ever Been Connected To The Grid. Unfortunatly The Battery Bank Is Getting A Bit Old Now, (made in 1976).....Made To Last In Those Days, And I Can No Longer Just Leave Lights On If I Don't Really Need Them. On The Negative Side..............I Live Way Out Of Town So I Have No Access To Garbage Or Recycling Services, So It All Goes Into A Big A Big Hole In The Ground. Cheers Glen.
I meant the local dude who tried off the grid and his wife was not happy that she could not use her electric dryer sold me the panels, He still has a ( I believe) a 380 watts of panels, a 110 single phase inverter 2500 watts and a 220v 5000 watts inverter and 6 big truck 6V batteries in a rolling tupperware cart I think I remember he wants $850 for the lot. Oh I forgot there is also in the package a water pump regulartor, Not bad ehhhh, Been of the grid for two years and the best deals come from those who tried and failed in the off the grid lifestyle,
we are set up to go off,OFF grid if the situation presents itself. no solar but we have took care of every aspect of sustaining ourselves without power if the need arises.. im toying with the idea, probably a very small scale just to have a light or a radio if need be. i already have a nearly brand new inverter out of a 35 foot RV, and a deep cycle battery. i really should pick up a panel, regulator and another deep cycle battery.just hate spending the money when i know its not a necessity..
I'm presently focusing on making sure that I am physically strong enough to survive a cataclysm, and recently that has not been easy. All the rest is just something to think about. I've got little idea on how I would deal with food shortages or no electricity/heat. I haven't ruled out the possibility of buying a one way ticket into the sun, if necessary.
I thought this thread was about how eco-friendly people were. Not: How I plan on living if the world turns to shit.
I use eco-friendly cleaning products, energy saving light bulbs, we have a wood burning stove that we use to keep the house warm rather than turning the heating on.. I don't recycle, however instead of throwing old newspapers, cardboard, etc. into the bin we just burn it all in the fireplace. And I rarely throw away any glass jars as I paint them instead and use for decoration. I never litter, I've been known to have a go at people who do.. But I'm terrible when it comes to water consumption, and I never remember to turn the lights off.
