Why should "ra" be pronounced "ru"? When we say "camera" do we say ka-me-ru?

it's a soft A, if you will. Camera has a sharp, attacking A at the end.


I'm all down with accents and people maybe saying things differently because of that, but it bugs me that some words become completely new words and branded American.

Dunno, but it occurs to me Brits have trouble pronouncing words that end in "a" without adding a little extra "r" at the end...whats up with that?

(Well, Maybe not "camera" with the proximity of the other "r" ...that would be really goofy)
