all you can do is consider the source and feel sorry for them.

i think somewhere in a number of religions, christianity among them, it says something about this being a good way to get there yourself.

not that words come from anyplace other then other humans. or the equivalent on whatever world one happens to be born into and living on at the time.

just look at them and realize, they have no more idea what they're talking about then anyone else. very probably less.

I ask them 'What if were already here'? Then debate it with them, all the while having a troll face in the back of my mind.

I'd say that's a pretty intolerant statement for someone whose doctrine is to love everyone.
Or is that not the idea of Christianity and most religions?

"To me belongeth vengence, and recompence; their foot shall slide in due time: for the day of their calamity is at hand, and the things that shall come upon them make haste."
    Deuteronomy.Ch:32.V:35.
If, as scripture asserts we are made 'in the image of God', then what?
"And God said,"Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth."
    Genesis.Ch:1.V:26.

I remind them that they're going to go to hell as well for sodomy, pre-marital sex, gambling, being fat (yes, that is a sin), idolizing somebody who isn't god, like a musician (sorry, deadheads), and so on.

Or I just tell them that I don't give a fuck and they shouldn't either. Let and let live. :)

Ask them to show you where it is written in the king James Bible that some one goes to hell for not following the teachings of Jesus , or to heaven for following Jesus . desert rat

I don't honestly think anyone's ever told me I'm going to hell, and I have a few Christian friends.

Say, "Let him that hath no sin, cast the first stone". No Christian on earth has the ability or right to condemn anyone. No Christian who is a legitimate student of the gospel would feel comfortable saying that to another human being. Jesus certainly wouldn't approve.

I've been through the witty retorts, the arguments, even the "no hables Ingles"....

The difficulty is, anyone who would say to you "you're going to hell" has arrogated to themselves a right that they probably should not. If they are that fervent, wit will be lost on them, they will have more time and energy to argue than I have and pretending I don't speak English is lame.

So I simply smile (yes, it has happened) and say something like "I respect your beliefs but I'm afraid I can never share them. Good day".

I well remember JWs often doorknocking us when I was a kid, as there was a Kingdom Hall near my street. My Dad (a lapsed-ish Catholic) was always polite to them, until they came at 7am on a Sunday. He got angry, not because of their religious views but because, as he said, "I work 80 hours a week, and God himself would be cranky if he got woken up the one day He was allowed to sleep in"......

Hell is just a scare tactic used to get people to belive in a religion and its mostly used by Christians it seems like. Also on a metaphysical note its where the undeiserables are thrown becasue they dont agree with the system.

I just roll into some AC/DC lyrics.. "I got my bell, I'm gonna take you to hell. I'm gonna get ya, satan gets ya. Hells bells.!!!!" .. probably helps if you have a guitar with a semi loud amp as well.;)

If you don't mind, I would rather be told to get fucked. That is something I can do something about.
