There are many cultural definitions of what can be classed as virginity. Obviously we tend to regard Penile Penetration as being the most commonly accepted version, although others may consider any form of sexual contact, such as Oral, Anal, or even Mutual Masturbation (all of these in giving and/or receiving) to be included as being breaches of virginity. Furthermore, at the extreme end of the scale it can sometimes it can even go all the way to simply having seen a naked man for a girl to be deemed as having lost her virginity.

if your penis is inside her vagina, you can be sure that she is not a virgin, by any standards. if you want to be extra sure, pop it in the backdoor as well.

I lose a bit more of my innocence every time I see a new thread title in the love and sex forums, and I haven't been a virgin for years.

 

The true definition of the very word 'Virgin' is, after all, 'Innocent', which can mean innocent in mind as well as innocent in body.

Most of the time (not to say EVERY time) when a woman does this, it's because she's from one of those cultures that give a lot of importance to female's virginity and she's afraid to be in trouble about not being one anymore...

You are right though, I remember reading a book based on Japanese culture and for the wedding night they needed to put a cloth under the newlyweds so they could see the blood from the first act... But... Not everyone bleeds their first time... So... Some interesting ideas out there to be sure...

Overwhelming responses but more than answers it was full of arguments. I am basically a virgin guy at the same time I would always want to have a virgin girl as my wife. Its not like just lose your virginity and marry a girl who is not a virgin. If that is the case then I wouldn't have posted this question.

Yes agreed that girls who rode bicycles, done exercises, athletes they might have torn their hymen when they were young and doesn't mean that they are not virgins.

At the same time it doesn't sound good for virgin guy cannot go and ask a girl whether she was a virgin or not. It could lead to skepticism for both if they are thinking to start a new life.

So I just got to understand now that virginity can never be proved but its just a belief where the girl if she is a virgin she too would be having the same element of doubt with a guy whom she is gonna marry.

Also I feel that virginity is not going to be know unless a guy has sex with a virgin girl. So if a guy gets a virgin girl then he is lucky else he is a loser!

Truly in the LOL WTF category:

 

People who care, usually care because of a spiritual reason related to their faith, which has nothing to do with what they usually call "worldly" standards.

Also I should point out that the 72 virgins thing is an extreme Islamic interpretation, and has been argued among scholars if that's the wrong way to understand that passage of that faith; the ones that interpret it literally are extremists and their crazy.

But Christians, and Jews also place importance on virginity for the same spiritual reason.
(which are different from physical medical reasons, psychological reasons, that say that most people only use)

I assume the OP is one of these types of people and cares about virginity for this reason or it's just pure ego.

I'll even go so far as to say I think the reason cultures have valued virginity, was that it represents certainty and security in an uncertain and insecure world.

The sex act probably subconsciously & consciously makes it so there's danger of you "wasting" resources taking care of someone else's offspring, getting your loved one or yourself a STI/STD and leaving your children defenseless prematurely.


And not all first time sex experiences are bad, you just have to approach it with the right attitude, patience, education, and communication and I think you're gonna have a pretty good time.

 

I respectfully disagree. The reason virginity has been valued is because it represents the ultimate in control over the activities of women (as there was at least some objective evidence as to whether penetration of the vagina had or had not occurred). Men, to the contrary, had no such independent indicator and so their status as a virgin was pretty much ignored.

This is why I deprecate the cult of the virgin: because it is inherently sexist and because it represents another attempt to control women.

You nailed it! The concepts of "virginity" and "chastity" as things of value are related to the emergence of the concepts of private property and heritability. The only way for men to ensure that the children their partners bore were theirs was to control their sexual and reproductive freedom through the institution of marriage, in which the woman becomes his property.

 

I can agree to aspects of the argument you've made here. But I do want to say historically men were put to death for lack of virginity for the same reason as well, but because of the lack of a physical indicator it was much harder to prove in those days.

Yeah that's it in a nutshell. Except you forgot that daughters love and sex lives were controlled by their fathers in regards to marriage as well.

In fact in many ways you see these same arguments come up again by people (usually male) in these forums that have gone off on and made angry "I got burned/screwed/manipulated by this chick"

And again I say it comes from a place of insecurity and a want for security and control in a world that is pretty much lawless in all other aspects of life.

At least now in modern times we have successful birth control methods as opposed to those shady methods in ancient history.

 

I must say it makes a pleasant change to see a subject discussed in a mature manner without the usual rantings & ravings for once. We may not all have the same opinions on things, but wouldn't it be a boring world if we did.

 

Yah it'd be pretty dull, BUT I'd be willing to see and experience what that world would be like for a week, and then revert back to normal.
