I have a lot of sympathy for the poor of Zimbabwe, they deserve more news coverage and analysis on the origins of their oppresive situation. Palistinians are overrepresented in the media, I'm tired of the repeat-cycle-loop of: provocation; military response; suffering;truce...... that we have endured realy since the end of the 1973 war. If these two sides want to fight each other I'm in favor of getting out of thier way. Let them fight to a conclusion because the cease fires do not hold up.
By Al-Jazeera, do you mean the English language version? I had that and the actual Arabic station available to me and there appears to be a very pronounced difference (I can't understand Arabic to any meaningful degree). The English language station and BBC were my preferred sources of TV news. They tend to fill in each others gaps, does that make sense? It helps to be smart enough to filter out the bias that is there, which probably comes from getting information from a wide variety of sources for a long time.
I agree with BraveSirRubin. The media bias in favor of the Palestinians and Hamas is UNacceptable, incompetent and just plain propaganda.I rarely watch the news anymore because American mainstream media has fallen to an all time low.Even though I detest Fox,they actually are the only ones I've noticed giving somewhat fair coverage in this situation.--Israel should BAN all journalists and cameras, and just do whatever they have to do to insure their(Israels) safety and wellbeing.--I also agree the Palestinians are waaaaaay over represented in the media.
They play both sides according to the dialectic. It depends on if the particular outlet serves the duty of providing a "left" spin or a "right" spin. The left-leaning media will tend to be more critical of Israel, whereas the phony right/neocon media will place all the blame on Gaza/Palestinians. While the left-leaning media maintains the appearance of being critical of Israel, they never really get to the meat of the issue or give the people an idea of why things are as they are. ALL media is biased in some way or another, even those outlets that appear to give unbiased coverage. It's up to informed individuals to use their own discernment to determine what information to take and what to leave. As long as people allow themselves to be downloaded with "news" from corporate-owned media, they're not going to see the full truth about anything. It really doesn't matter which "side" they give you as long as they control both sides of the authorized debate.
Of all the many aspects of your comedy routine Rat, surely the funniest part is the "dialectic". Honestly anyone who thinks it takes a vast conspiracy to create two "sides" to an "issue" is really beyond gullible.
Propaganda. It sounds like something that belongs to the dark days of WWII. What few people realize is with the expansion of electronic media, there is a likewise expansion of propaganda to counterbalance the "subversive" take on things. The internet is the best friend democracy ever had. It allows a balanced opinion for those that are willing to sift the world for the truth. They can truly vote with authority. Because they are well informed. The shortcoming of democracy is people vote with their heart/pocketbook. If you can control what goes into a voting population, you can control what comes out of them at the polls. This has been used very effectively since the invention of TV. People tend to believe what they can see. The truth is unlike what the western media paints a picture of. Beware of it. Beware of it all. But don't exclude any of it. You must sift what is out there. Then you must be careful not to allow emotion to enter your decision. Harder than it sounds. x
Yet I can provide you quotes from people like Carroll Quigley (not a "conspiracy theorist" and someone who was very much an insider) saying how they control both sides, and you will STILL skirt the issue, attacking the messenger with your pathetic attempts at ridicule and marginalization. And I never said it takes a "vast conspiracy" to create two sides. However, it does to CONTROL both sides so people never learn the full truth about anything (while at the same time creating polarization/division). It has nothing to do with the creation of sides, rather who controls those sides. The media often does present two sides, but what most people do not know is that there are two sides to every side. So even when the media appears to be biased against Israel, they're still resorting to a huge deception because half-truths and selective omissions aren't any better than outright lies when it comes to mass manipulation.
Someone emailed this link to me... Salon Opinion This guy makes some pretty good arguments. -------------------------------------- I tend to have some pretty unfeasible ideas most of the time, and one of them was that Israel could diffuse Palestinian violence by promoting development and even affluence in the territories. I guess the trouble with that idea is that Palestinians consistently allow 'radicals' to take control of local politics. It's kind of a chicken and egg thing.
To me, so long as the word "terrorist" is used- it is an unbalanced coverage. I've yet to hear a satisfactory definition of the term "terrorist" -
They've already done that, the Israelis. http://www.commondreams.org/headline/2008/12/30-1 You must be joking when every media report counts lame rockets that kill no one, but Israel dumps tons of bombs on civilians and it's rarely reported that those instruments of death are provided by the US. Over 500 to 4 now. What about providing food, water and medical treatment to the Gazans? They are not human are they in your viewpoint? You can wall them in, you can cut off all economic means to them. They should be greatful, you allow them to live. It's your world the US backs you up.
