Could someone provide me with some evidence of GAP owning/not owning Hot Topic? Websites, perhaps? I have heard claims from both sides but have not actually seen solid evidence.
I have to admit that the dress in my sig pic came from Torrid (the fat girl version of Hot Topic). Any place that carries Strawberry Shortcake and Rainbow Brite items is alright with me. Yet in the end, I can't stand shopping so I'm not really phased.
Yeah, my dad used to write up invoices for the Hot Topic in the Memphis mall. They're owned by Abercrombie and Fitch. But, as long as you're not shopping there for the sole purpose of being non-conformist, then you're not really being a hypocrite. Their selection is tiny. I have gotten a Hendrix shirt, a Stones shirt and an Allman Brothers Band shirt from there. I couldn't believe they actually would sell it honestly. They sell Emperor and The Walls of Jericho stuff, so I just assumed that classic rock stuff was strictly off limits there. If you really want to find a cool selection and you're into classic rock stuff, random lamps and novelties and tapestries and such, go to www.freakshop.com. Although, all of the stuff I like is always out of stock, so I guess I'm not doing well showing others the link. lol I really like this Cheech and Chong doobie incense holder, and this Jimi Hendrix flaming guitar incense holder, but they're both out of stock. I also like www.80stees.com . It's a much smaller selection, but it's got some stuff from the generation I love most.
Well, back in my Punk days, I realized that they're targeting a crowd of people with no jobs, sometimes no houses (the hardcore punks) but all their stuff is rediculously expensive... So their target group cant really afford to get anything there. They do have a few decent things in there, but most of its over priced for my liking. There is a lot of hypocracy and irony around the store, but whatever, buying things once or twice in there isn't bad, just dont make a habit out of it =P
Sometimes punk clothes are the dorkiest looking things, so go raid your closet instead of going there first!
I was mainly just looking for evidence from the people on here who have said that "GAP own Hot Topic" or "GAP doesn't own Hot Topic". I wanted to know where they got their information. Thanks for the ideas, though.
we dont have this chain store in australia but from what i hear people saying, makes sense. but its nothing new. "alternative clothes" sold in butiques for high prices has always been the case. it was like that in the 60s in london with shops like "granny takes a trip", in the 70s the viviene westwood punk stuff at "sex", and so on. its just the same as that. most people just bought cheaper imitations or made their own. what i dont like is recycled clothes shops who buy stuff from op shops and sell them for 10 times as much at least...
i love hot topic... i got the cutest pink dress with black lace trim with skulls embroidered on it. everytime i go there the people are so friendly and helpful. the reason i bought the dress was because one of the employees begged me to try it on, and i loved it. they even gave me a discount on it and a pair of some wicked boots. as for being owned by the gap? wouldnt suprise me, they own everything. like banana republic abercrombie&fitch american eagle old navy...blah blah blah they sell a lot of awesome bettie page merch too...
i tend to stay away from Hot Topic. i have found clothes they sell for way less online. one of my problems with it was seeing jackets that were already made with patches and stuff for like $60-70 dollars. but it's where ever you want to shop at.
I only go in there to get band t-shirts and body jewelry. the rest of the crap in there makes me laugh, specially those big huge like goth velvety dresses they have, lol. like lord of the rings style....haha
