do you think motorised transport has been around forever? ever heard of a cart? well the lucky ones have had massive amounts of money and millions of work hours invested on their behalf to provide a sewage system so they can dispose of their feaces in a safe and hygenic manner the rest shit in the street and pray they don't catch cholera Edit:lulz
good luck with that, those are some spittin, biting hateful bastards with a generally shit attitude...other than that they're nice enough
I absolutely love riding horses, it makes me feel like Clint Eastwood. I just don't believe that animals should be used as transportation. It's degrading, much in the same way farming them is. At least at a respectable farm however, they're treated well until they are put down, hopefully as humanely as possible. I realise this seems kind of dumb considering that animals are farmed for food. What's the difference between using them for food and using them to get around? (rhetorical) I've heard many justify horseback riding with the stance that the horses enjoy it, which some may seem to. However, I'm more inclined to believe that what they enjoy is being out in a field, on a trail, galloping along, being combed, being relatively free, etc. Hot having a human sit on their back on a leather seat. I may like monster trucks too, but that doesn't mean I think they should be used as a means of transportation. Many argue that it would be better for the environment, but we already have bicycles. And given that the majority of the population is now suffering from being overweight, I'm more inclined to lean towards the bicycle as not only a good form of exercise, but an extremely earth friendly vehicle. Why are people not using their bicycles more? I feel that this should be a bicycle vs. car debate, as oppossed to horse vs. car. It'd be more practical. Maybe in the past we had to use horses, but we now have other options available (the bicycle) that are earth friendly, relatively cheap, practical, and does not harm animals or their environments.
There'd be fairly significant ecological costs of another hundred million transportation horses roaming around the States. Farming for the massively increased grain needs would create significant increases in carbon dioxide emissions. Agriculture is responsible for about 20% of carbon dioxide emissions. It'd be less carbon dioxide that cars produce, but not perfect. There'd be logistical problems for long commuters with kids. There'd be horse shit problems, and diseases associated with waste. People with a lot of seemingly minor disabilities couldn't get around without being pulled around in a carriage. It's not a very good solution. Neither is riding your kids to school on a bike, otherwise, bicycles are a decent alternative. Ethanol powered hybrids are a better alternative without turning back the clock a thousand years, so are light rails around cities.
cars are reality... locally, biking, walking, etc. otherwise whats the solution you propose for traveling, picking up kids, and what not, ye know? its haaaard with no car :sunny:
I could be wrong, but I was always under the impression that horses were domesticated and bred specifically to do certain tasks, including pulling wagons and developing a relationship with its human rider. Dogs are happier when they are walking or running miles at a time, or doing another given task. I always thought horses were similiar. I do think using horses as a main mode of transportation now is unethical. It worked when there was nothing but open country or forest trails to run on. Now, if everyone that owned a quarter acre plot of land or lived in an apartment had a horse tied up around back, the quality of life for those animals would be horrendous.
electric multiple unit narrow gauge railway. and yes, the electric coming only from all the cleanies; wind, solar, et c.
