I could say the goodness of lettuce is a mind altering substance. After all, it wouldn't be salad without lettuce... and it *IS* a plant. So... it obviously should be made illegal at once. Could even have a little code like "360" instead of "420"

    meh... tobacco is too commercial.

The gov't will make money off of you with their investments in phillip morris and the likes then they'll reap benefits with their controlling and investments in pharmaceutical companies.

legalising weed , will just create the same problems.. It will just become another social political financial commododity benefiting all the people you have mentioned.. The trade offs from more investment in pharamceutical drugs is maybe a good thing..but ya just get bogged down in all the crap you say.. Then another drug will take the same place of weed... and then people will moan about why that is not legal.. How much trouble have other drugs had on societies, this imho is just the same ...

gateway drug? thats surely because the GOVERNMENT has classed it with all the other drugs it could be a gateway to. (although yeah, after the first time i tried pot i did think well what the f, i've smoked grass i might as well smoke some crack)

getting busted? i didn't make it illegal did I? that's a problem with the law not a problem with the plant.

ah well, everyone's already said it all. ignorance is bliss eh?

you should, because that "research " was full of holes big enough to drive a truck through.

"gateway" was devised about the time heroin went on an upswing in the late 60s. Remember, Americans liked opiates MUCH more than cannabis, historically.
Opiate derived drugs do cycle. its a fairly steady number of habitual users, just the experimenters and short-timers ebb and flow. Also reporting mechanisms change with technology and location. Some police departments track every drug offense by type, some track drug offenses as a single category (s was it smack, or meth, a vial of acid or a gram of hash?)
So offical numbers hare inconsistent and there fore not comparable.
It is borne out that users of "harder drugs": which I'll call powders, do have expericence with pot. They also have experience with alcohol, tobacco and eating meat in many cases.
So what's the gateway? sugar? caffeine? I have logical arguments for both.
The gateway theory was a logic leap for advertising purposes.
What we need is legitimate research to find the benefits and drawbacks to the plant AND the methods of ingestion (no lung problems with ganja butter, but how about the cholesterol?) for a true look at the situation.

in many communities today, meth is the first scheduled drug kiddies get their hands on, or use to study or work all night.

some states in the US allow med cards for epilepsy. I don't think Colorado is one (although I should check into that) but the nothwest does.

That is unfair Burbot, the guy had serious issues, he had a chop shop, and a deep hatred of the authorities. The fact that he grew a few plants is irrelevent.
I have smoked weed twice in five years. So you would call me a supporter of a cop killer?
That is mean spirited, and uncalled for.
I totally respect the police, and could not do their job. They are special people, for the very large majority. As in any group, you get duds. But I have seen far more who are truly serving the publics best interests well.
If this man had a beer every now and then, are all the beer drinkers supporting his murders?
    No.
I know you can see the logic, you are a smart person.
