Honestly, how would dreads look on me?

awww... i for one am not saying people are superficial and shallow just for not liking dreads... i wouldn't judge that way, and if i came off sounding judgmental i'm sorry!

my comments about superficiality (is that a word?) were based on someone reacting negatively to dreads because of a few people they knew, and expressing the idea that dreads are not "in good hygeine" or that dreaddies don't care about their appearance.

of course dreads are a preference! you can like them, you can dislike them, you can love them or hate them... it's not the attitude of preference i get pissed off at, it's the attitude of assumption.. that because someone has dreads they're dirty or rasta or pot smokers or don't care about their appearance or whatever. ok, that's all!

 

Some of you guys with dreads are sure into vanity.

And you say “dreads are a life style” well correct me if I am wrong but didn’t hippies in the 60s and 70s bring the idea of dreads back from India and it is a symbol of going beyond vanity and caring about what people think?
So why are you guys getting worked up about it?
I’m not make any assumptions I just was stating I have been around plenty or dreads and the impression they give me.

The woman was asking what people thought about dreads I said what I thought.

If I asked what people thought about how I would look with a crew cut I would expect all different answers.

I wouldn’t say a crew cut is a way of life it is my identity blablabla
(I don’t really have a crew cut)

Seriously it is a hairstyle..! talk about stuck on vanity.

But please don't fight/argue on my account. Everyone's opinion is beautiful in it's own way and all are appreciated...but what I've really been reminded here is that my opinion is the one that counts most! I'm quite glad that I have more information, and I think I might dread soon...the worst that can happen is that I dislike them and I shave it off! Hair is hair and it'll grow back in no time at all.

It's cool to gain this insight, feel free please to keep sharing opinions!!! (but be sure to keep it nice )

but i have to say, a hairstyle is a decision to part on 1 side or the other, wear it up, down curly or straight, it can change day to day
a lifestyle is something that affects your life,
being naked in the shower isnt a lifestyle, but being a nudist, going to beaches and resorts thayt not everyone woulfd go to, having people assume certain things based on what u choose to do and how you live or look is a lifestyle, youwill hsave those who look down on you and those who look up,
u can expect to invite a lil misunderstanding as u can see here

hair is just hair... you are exactly right! it grows back if you chop it off, and it gets longer if you don't do anything to it... it's very fluid, just like people and directions they go in their lives... always room for change! and if you dread, please make sure you post tons of pictures! i love talking about dreads and my dread experiences, so feel free to pm me too if you like!

Yes, it is her right to do what she wants. She'll be gorgeous either way. It's just that my own personal preference would be for AmeliorateLJ to keep it how she has it now.
