I think it was for the benefit of those who wish ti dismiss everything made by Metallica without being aware that they used to be a great band.
I agree, and I don't like their later stuff, but to say they were never relevant and formed by corporations to make money is the type of bullshit that i would expect from a hippy "Metallica was ready to record its debut album, but when Metal Blade was unable to cover the additional cost, the band began looking for other options. Concert promoter Johnny "Z" Zazula, who had heard the 1982 No Life 'til Leather demo, offered to broker a record deal with Metallica and New York City-based record labels. After receiving no interest from various record labels, Zazula borrowed the money to cover the record's recording budget and signed Metallica to his own label, Megaforce Records.[6] Band members decided to kick Mustaine out of the band due to drug and alcohol abuse, and violent behavior.["
The act of compromising one's artistic output in favour of success and wealth, having probably built up a healthy following that would ensure some interest in any future releases.
right, and that's what I feel Metallica did when the 90's and grunge came around. Changed with the times, got rid of their guitar solos etc but still, they had been around for a decent length of time before that
Thanks for the gold stars. As far as I'm concerned Metallica sold out when they decided to record an album with Bob Rock, the guy who produced Slippery When Wet by Bon Jovi. And they then tried, quite succesfully, to disguise this fact by detaching themselves from the phenomenon of album cover art, which they thought was detracting their fans from the music inside. Fair play to them though, I'd have done the same to become hugely succesful overnight and have showers with scores of teenage girls after their shows. Anyway, Metalica died with Cliff Burton, not that And Justice for All is not a phenomal album too.
Getting rid of the guy who made your first 4 albums sound technically brilliant, and trading him in for Bon Jove's producer can hardly be said to be going with the grunge thing. Grunge barely had a name for itself in 1991 anyway. They were selling out. They were offered money, and they took it.
I don't think its phenomenal either, but I think its the last of their decent albums Ride the Lightening is my favorite and this live clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yUL8dEroAY4
No I think it IS phenomenal. They were still buzzing with creativeness, and Jason hardly featured at all in the album, hence the tinny sound of it. Jason was never really a part of Metallica. And Justice For ALL is what they would have probably made if CLiff had been around.
their music started sounding like Grunge, that is what I base that on. I don't think its the recording techniques, it was a song writing change Also plenty of people knew of grunge and Sub Pop in 1991
absolutely not I don't even like Grunge, but i was around and remember those days are you from England or some shit? metal bands from the 80's started grungifying themselves in the 90's
I listen to Metallica. Older shit of course, but I still listen to it and am proud of it! No new crap, but the 80s and early 90s. looovin it.
