Far too many homeless people. Prince William slept rough last night as part of his support for a charity, to help him gain some insight to the problems they face. It was cold enough walking home, never mind sleeping out there.

They are urgently looking for volunteers in the following areas:

Night owls - volunteers for night shifts are urgently needed in all our centres
Residential Centres - volunteers are needed in our Dependency Centre (Battersea), Quiet Centre (Islington), Women’s Centre (West London) and Rough Sleeper’s Centre (East London)
Stratford - volunteers for afternoon shifts are needed at our day centre in Stratford
Opticians, befrienders and massage - volunteers with specialist skills are urgently needed to help deliver vital service


You don't need any qualifications for most of the above and it will make a real difference to someones life.. and is quite good fun! You have to do two shifts between 23rd and 30th December...

 

my city has the most homeless people per square meter in the whle country excluding london, i think. we're also the over dose capital of the country, sad times indeed....

 

Wow, those are some great services! Glad to hear folks are willing to help out. In America, too many of the crisis lines and homeless shelters -- are being shut down. And that's why there are so many homeless people out in the cold. Most Americans could not care less. I don't get how some people can be so heartless.

This 1-week project uses the efforts of nearly 10,000 volunteers.

 

I am a medic and yoga teacher and I work voluntary for the homeless in a charity facility. It provides a shower, cheap meals and friendship all through the year. Although some are drug users and criminals the vast majority are not. Young people and old people fallen on hard times. All very friendly to me and grateful for my services. From my side I enjoy the pleasure I give to others who are less fortunate than me; who knows one day I may be there myself.
