Back in the 60’s Hippies on the Move gave rise to a healthy form of fast food called Trail Mix Hotwater
trail mix is delicious been living on the stuff since the day i was born my parents are sorta hippies
...I'm pretty much doing as much organic, local, seasonal eating as possible- as much as I can afford at least. And I really like the slow food movment where you do everything the long way instead of getting things pre-packaged...and produce can always be dumpster dived, which is recycling and you can always find really good practically fresh food that just not able to be sold in the store anymore... ...the programs I take in school are all about environmental degration and poverty, so it's sort of pushed me into an ULTRA ethical diet. I super dig on my "hippy" foods
i gotta say, i'd rather grow my own veggies before i'd dumpster dive for them i'm still a little uptight about it i probably would do it though eventually...maybe... i've dumpster dove for other stuff...just i doubt i'd do it for food
I don't know, it just depends, like in Nelson we got like 6 boxes of totally fresh veggies from this one dumpster. It is amazing what people put in the garbage. Last week I got a christmas tree and lots of wrapping paper, its crazyness...
like i have gone through trash and gotten some awesome stuff but just the idea of getting food out of a dumpster freaks me a bit but...i did get a friend to pass me food from tim hortins in garbage bags a little while ago during the summer at the end of the night they throw away all of the food, even if its still good it's so wasteful
When I eat (and i dont).... Its healthy unless im stoned. I mean WAAAY healthy. im going back to school for nutrition. fuck psych.
No, I mostly just do grocery stores...they just throw out lots of really good produce and stuff...Then I take it home and wash it and see if it's ok. I'll admit when traveling we were really hungry and some resteraunts were really good. Like pizza places get prank calls all the time and they just pitch them when they realise they are not real orders, so there are full boxes of untouched pizzas, and chocolate shop dumpsters are freaking brilliant. It's how they fed all the people at the tree sit, and rainbow gatherings I was at also. just a good resource. can get all sorts of new clothes and stuff as well, and last week I got a bran new cooking pan, a christmas tree, and all this holiday stuff... I know it sounds weird and gross but I just think recycling instead of buying new is really important...
my dad has gotten so much stuff out of dumpsters it's been kind of ingrained in me recycling is something my family does a fuck load we have like 10 bins always had a compost it's not that weird for me to dumpster dive, it used to be something i was embarrassed about now i know it's practical i just don't know if i'd eat garbage food but i probably would i'd eat stuff off the ground..
it took traveling without money and hanging out with some green anarchists to get me into it, but now I'm just constantly amazed at what an amazing idea it is.
I didnt know there was "hippy food" Heh, thats funny With me, basically, if its an edible plant, fruit, nut, seed, sprout...ill usually eat it. Im a herbivore, but not a fussy one at all. Ill usually cram in whatever leaves happen to be cheapest at the time
true to my omnivour roots, i'll eat anything that isn't still moving and hasn't already passed through someone else's digestive tract, that doesn't try to eat me first, or otherwise do me in. well there are few things i don't much care for, some of which being because i've already way overdone them in my past (peas, other then raw and fresh from the garden, literally, for example). a few things that don't seem to aggree very well with my innerds, like most beans and carbonated beverages, or processed meats with a lot of sulphates and hyperchlorates in them (or bacon, eggs, coffee, or white sugar on an empthy stomac, though even these are ok later on in my wake period, after i've already eaten and digested at least one meal of something else). =^^= .../\...
