The buses at festivals, still traveling the country, are my fav's.Its a dying breed even without all the fancy paint their beautiful. hopefully i'll be in one this coming spring...
Well we've decided to modify the project somewhat. We'll take all the sheet metal off the nose and have the frame ends made into a trailer hitch, so I can move it if I have to. As for other Rolling Homes, well a friend of mine has a 20 ft 1971 Fleury (GMC) motorhome, I'm going to see if I can get my mitts on that, it's just sitting and only needs a little work to run properly.:sunny: Customizing it will be a bit harder, but at least it already has the main fixtures I need-but I will be looking for a composting toilet unit, and get rid of the blackwater tank, allowing for a back-up fuel tank or fresh water tank. It's another abominably painted monster. Oh well, good thing I can rent a compressor and spray bottles to paint it! It also needs a bath-having sat, its an interesting shady of pale algae green right now. Lois
Hi Folks, sorry I've been gone for a while, but I've been having way too much fun snooping around in Mr. Sharkeys bus barn forum. I finally got to see my bus, new floor, new paint, etc, and I'll have a base to work on. I'll be buying a side window a month for a while on my budget, but doubled 6mm poly will do the job for now. I get a bed frame and a work bench with it, both useful articles and I scrounged a small cabinet off my neighbour's junk pile for the bus, I'll have to find a heater and stuff like that, but it will come together in time. Cheers Lois
also, anyone willing to sell a vw van wit a bed or jus alot of comfort space in working condition, i will pay up to 1000 dollars for it, depending on condition. been looking fr one for awhile. one love :]
When I graduated from high school me and 2 of my friends all pooled money together and bought a Plymouth mini-van. Not as cool as a bus, but it was still pretty freakin cool! We glued seashells all over it and painted designs all over it before the trip. One thing we wrote on the side was "Welcome aboard". Because we were basically letting anyone join in for a ride if they wanted. That's what it was all about, meeting people and trusting people and letting them in. We drove it up and down the west coast starting in the SoCal desert going up to Seattle, visiting all the spots on the 101 and 5 mostly staying at campsites or parking in random spots. We also cut into Idaho and freaked out some people there. People would see the van and they would want to contribute their art to it. And we let people write anything they wanted on it. Most of it was groovy and artistic stuff. Some of it was more crass and edgy, but that was ok, we just let people express themselves. After 2 months of picking up hitchhikers and camping out and going to concerts and gatherings, it was totally covered with stuff. Someone gave us some yellow and red spray paint so the whole thing was a blaze of yellow and red like the sun. Cops were pulling us over because it was so crazy looking. Good times. That was back in the 90's. But I plan on doing the same thing again next year, probably around next summer. If you're on the west coast and you see a crazy minivan pull up, it's probably GreenGardener :afro: Oregon or bust this time!
A bus is my dream home..body has to be tall enough to stand in though. Iv seen a few on Craigslist but they are out in Minnesota and I got nobody to drive the pickup back home. Id like to get one with a handicapped lift on it. I dont know what the lift capacity or the ramp dimentions are for them but id like to load my Scooter with it. Heres a bunch of busses at this site you can look at.. http://www.skoolie.net/
Riding around the country in a painted bus. What could be hippier than that? Sorry, I couldn't resist! :ack2:
A boyfriend had a psycadelic painted VW bus in about 68 and we drove from San Francisco to Vancouver in it. It was great, but we got pulled by the police and searched so many times that he painted over it in black. That seemed to solve the problem. How sad.
Yes, the sad truth is such vehicles were magnets for illegal police searches. You might as well have had a sign saying "Drugs on Board!" You were traveling in the Pacific Northwest, in some other parts of the country, notably the South, much worse things could have happened.
She ain't no oil painting but this is my bus/garden shed, her name is Pit Stop and I plan on giving her a full renovation except for running gear and use her as my place to escape from the house when I need privacy Lois
Ok. I went through my pic selection and found these. I hope that's what you guys are looking for! :daisy:
hmmm... i want to buy a 90s something vw van or ford transit (not as bad to the enviroment as the old ones), and put a bed in it , some pillows and stuff, awesome paintings in it. Then maybe paint some things on it. Great to drive around europe and enjoy the free life in. something like these but with more psychedelic paint
