Certainly common perceptions will form, and mouth noises to share those perceptions with form and hold value, but to assert that your conscious process and a bunch of man-made mental constructs like science are going to play a role in the development of such common perceptions seems absurd to me. The hammer does not appear red because of some scientific study to prove its redness, which we then allowed to enter our minds and form our reality. The hammer appears red because a mind much greater than ours, or science's, formed our reality for it to appear as such. The perception of its redness does not come from it being evidenced as such through some supposedly intelligent cognitive process, it comes about by just paying attention.

I personally do not see any group of humans working on a mental construct to be really effectively working together. For example, a mental construct like 'consensus', groups of people where they all mentally repeat to themselves 'this is how it is, this is whats to be done' don't really appear to be working to me, they appear to be very dysfunctional. I do not see the development of spoken word and language to be the glue which maintains a societies harmonious qualities. In the closest and most harmonious relationships I've ever had, it was not the communication of words that created that harmony, but was rather the communication of something much deeper without words. This is why this whole business of proving and disproving, and scientific rationalism is absurd to me. Creating a perfect word system will do nothing to solve the current issues humanity struggles with. Trying to perfect our word system with all this evidential business is just a distraction from the real for front of human evolution. The impulse to need to construct the perfect word system in order to enshrine everyones brain in I think went out of style with the Christian Inquisition. Theres a whole new level to be explored now, we need to interact on an atomic, quantum, or perhaps pranic level. Which at that level the truth and its communication is inherit to its perception, no cognitive word structure necessary.

You are focusing on language when I only used that as an example that I hoped would convey the message. I guess I made an inaccurate assumption. When I refer to a consensus based reality, I'm talking about many things transcendent to language.
Our reality is formed starting at birth and is shaped by our interactions with our environment and significant others in that environment.
You should look into some of Charles Tarts work regarding the evolution of consciousness in humans. Very interesting. But that is within the realm of science, so maybe you would just disregard it off hand.

The level of consensus that shapes our reality is very rudimentary and foundational and has been shaped throughout eons of time. You are only focusing on the societal and cultural structures laid atop that foundation. When I talk of consensus reality I am talking about something that supersedes civilization and language, but impacts and influences every skill or technology discovered or derived from our existence.

True the hammer does not appear red due to some scientific study to prove it's redness, but our agreement or consensus that a particular section of the electromagnetic spectrum in the visible range of light is called "red" is fundamentally important to the survival and continued progress of the human creature. Same holds true for everything we encounter in life.

Wouldnt all these chems (LSD, DMT, 4-ho-dmt, ect...) just be opening up or tuning into different parts of your brain, causing different interpretations of reality by different states of consciousness?

The reason they seam to have Hindu or other religious ties or meaning is because the areas of you mind that connect to these altered states of consciousness are explored through sensory deprivation or by use of compounds that are psychoactive. I think the religions are communicating what they find and what they found was always there before they found it.
