A 4.0 is a good way to prove you are a hard worker. It's simple, you should care about school because you have a desire to learn about the world. School is one of the best places you can do that.

Can't rep so, fantastic post Meliai.

The drugs are a rather decent point.
I didn't get the impression that he was demanding we laugh. No applause lights came on that I saw.

It sure could be. He certainly doesn't seem very impressed by what he saw (by the tone of his report) -- he could be laughing at the situation instead of feeling bad for those involved/humanity

Bullshit. Neither story has all that many details about how things started.

It says "gangrape" (which could be statutory) and "brutal attack" without giving any details about what was so brutal (which could just be the act itself)
For all we know, she was begging for it and only got mad cause of the pictures, or her mommy is the one pressing the charges.

Meanwhile, we don't even know if the star of Capt.'s story regretted it.

    Uh-huh.

All of his disdain is directed at the women involved - his "sluts" - and none has been directed at his two friends.

Certainly more relevant than George Carlin.

I think that CC did find it funny, but not in like the actual humor sorta way. More along the lines of the it's-so-screwed-up-that-laughing-is-really-the-only-reaction-that-one-can-stifle. I viewed the whole situation as an "Are you f***ing kidding me?" sort of laughed-off type of thing.

From the sound of Captain's story, I didn't get the feeling that the girl was terribly against it. It didn't sound like it was rape. When a girl goes to the kind of party that's centered around drugs and alcohol, she's normally aware that the potential for such an incident happening is going to be there.

I mean, yeah, she was coked up and drunk, but still, if she's unwillingly taking it from two different guys, she's likely going to put up some kind of trouble. ESPECIALLY if someone enters the room. She'd likely see it as some kind of help, so she would make some sort of scene to let them know that she's having this happen to her against her will.

What does it sound like then? I can only account for myself, but I've never had a woman make a horrified face during consensual sex.

He clearly found her horrified face to be hilarious.

You mean like a horrified face?

Think about it. One 15 year old GIRL, surrounded by 3 potentially drunk, coked up guys. Do you really think she's going to try and fight or make a run for it? Isn't it likely she would be afraid to do something like that?

Really think about it. Don't be biased just because you may like Captain Cannabis.

I don't know that I like him. I don't know if I dislike him either. I've never had a conversation with him. I've just read some of the stupid things he's done over the years. I don't think it fair of me to judge him based on what he says to an online forum though, so until we actually talk, he's neutral in my book.

I can see where you're coming from. I guess the way that I saw it, the look of horror came from the fact that somebody walked in on her having sex. It didn't really occur to me that it would be anything besides that.

I don't think that any of us really know enough about what happened (outside of CC) to judge how things went down. So unless he gives more information, I'm not really going to try and argue it more.

I definitely understand your point though, as do I understand Sitka's and everyone elses. Only problem is that all these individual opinions are subjective and based on how we interpreted the story.

    are you really saying that??

what are you, 5 posts in?

that aside... what you actualy learn in high school is retarded and pointless... but i did it anyway because thats how the system is.. and all fighting the system does is turn you into a poor burnout in a deadend job.

the hippy dream of rebelling against the man sounds cool and stuff.. but it really doesnt go fucking anywhere, youre better off just falling in line.. (unless you actualy have a plan to somehow change things.. in which case, go ahead. but if youre just going to drop out of high school cause its stupid bullshit, I wouldnt bother. Most of life is stupid bullshit)

i spoke too soon, i was going back to edit my post, but you had already posted.

retarded and pointless meaning, theres a pretty solid chance that im never going to need to clasify leaves, or know about the epic of gilgimesh, or have to use theoroms to find the radius of a circle, or know the purpose of the spleen, or wright a 5 paragraph essay in less than 25 minutes, but learning about these things gives you the ability to think, and the ability to show the world that you can think. theres no point in fighting it, even if youre going to forget 90% of what you learned 3 months after school ends.

Most of the stuff you ever learn you will in fact never learn, it doesn't mean they're not good to know. You never know what you might need to know. Someone who knows only what they need to do their job isn't a very educated person, nor a very appealing applicant to a job.

Community college can get you good paying jobs depending on the career... but mostly only if you go for a trade.

Really, some community colleges are better than technical schools when it comes to more manual labors.

case in point: When you're in high school its hard to see the forest for the trees.

although duck is right, you can get a decent paying job by learning a trade at a community college. At my town's community college they have a RN program (great career) and various other two year medical degrees. You can also transfer to a four year university after a year or two at community college so that doesn't have to be the end of the road.

I didn't think that a lot of the more selective universities would accept you without a diploma? I thought that even as a transfer student, you still had to meet the requirements that they set down for freshmen?

I don't know about the more selective universities but I do know my state school and another large university in my state don't require high school transcripts if you are transferring from another college.

It all depends on the state and school. It definitely limits you; but who knows how much.
