Aren't you a car repair guy?
Over here they aren't considered 'upper' middle class.

That's because 'over there' what cars you have are little shitboxes and most of you ride bikes.

I own real estate, grossing between $80-90k this year, and have a family business/inheritance. So draw your own conclusions.

Lower is payday to payday making it hard to have the basics.....like dental work.

Middle is bills are met, a little extra for retirement, enough for a few endulgences.

Upper is spare money to build retirement, invest, buy more and bigger toys, donate.

    We are middle.

I'm not mad, just pointing out that your European preconceptions have no bearing in the reality of capitalism.

And the reality of capitalism is that it is a mere shadow of metabolism.

Lower: struggling to make ends meet.
Middle: can afford bills AND hookers and blow.
Upper: same as middle, but with multiple houses, cars, and other expensive toys.

    I'm upper middle.

Not that it really matters. I have more respect for classy people with no money, rather than the other way around.

I am one as well and you are far off. I guess if $80-$100 an hour minimum is 'low' class, Guess im the 'Tokyo Rose' of the trailer court.

The more idiots think 'technology' is a good thing, The more money I make hand over fist.

Yeah, a welfare mom on food stamps with a fully loaded EBT card would be considered upper middleclass in some countries

Over here in Europe the car repair guys aren't known to be the brightest people and whenever I bring my car to repair it's always pretty cheap. Surely not even close to $80 an hour. I wonder why people would pay such rediculous prices anyway, but I guess it's all the better for you.

I think generally,in the USA class is more of an economic definition, while in Europe it is more of a cultural definition.Just an observation.

Not really. If it would be a cultural definition, everyone in Europe would see all Americans as lower class.

Do you want it fixed right, Or 'Right away'? That's usually the factor here and I turn away the 'right now's'.

Its a trade off over here, Real mechanics and shade tree ones. I went to school and got certified, Then sent back to be taught 'brand specific' for two brands.

The field can put food on the table for the stupid all the way to the top, But its what you do in the industry that determines pay.
Oil change people are usually stupid mechanic's in the US. You have to take it to a shop, You can pick cheap and iffy to eat off the floors and pay once and done. That's the beauty of 'options'.

I'm not much into the repair business, but I know some guys who are and unless they make insane amount of hours they don't earn much. No matter how skilled they are. I guess the market over here does just not ask for 'high end, high priced' mechanics.

Well, wouldn't you agree that it would be easier to pass yourself off as an aristocrat with no money in Europe than an aristocrat with no money in USA? Maybe I am talking more specifically about the UK,which has a longer intellectual and cultural history than USA.I don't know about Netherlands, but as you probably know we have sharp class divisions here in UK,and they are certainly quite largely drawn along cultural, educational and intellectual lines. It's something that we have never really been able to shake off, although I believe the middle class is in decline as a moral force here.
