I have been thinking about something like this for a while now. It seems that this one never got off the ground. I am interested in starting something very similar. <message edited due to a change in plans> Well I did it. I devised a plan w/ the potential to save the world. Nobody cared. Not even on this website. I can see why this thread never made it. The world could be entirely made up of hip-forums members and we still wouldn't save it. No point in bringing the flower-power movement back.
Well not with that attitude, mister! It just takes the right people...enthusiasm and refusal to give up is a must.
Yawn... The site was created 11 years ago... It's called Hippy.com This site came from that. If it hadn't been for both of these sites, none of you would be here today discussing this. The history of the hippies would've been forgotten too, rewritten by conservatives attempting to hide their past misdeeds. So now it's up to EVERYONE here to do their part (many here do). Creating more websites isn't the answer. (There are dozens already trying to do what the thread starter is attempting). Finding local solutions for local problems, and getting POLITICALLY active as many have over the past year will help make a difference. I hoped that creating hippy.com, hipforums.com & writing a book would help. It did. It's taken 11 years of my life to get the ball rolling. Are you ready to make THAT kind of commitment? Cause that's what it takes to make a difference. If not, you'll never get anywhere.
Here's an idea that might be much easier to do, and start a new ball rolling... In some places around the world, people are getting together spontaneously via text messaging. They get together to do things like have pillow fights. But what if we started having impromptu gatherings to protest or party. You'd have to start in a major city to get any kind of good response. Let the media in on it so the event will get some airplay. Make sure you've got an interesting theme to attract people and to make it look interesting when the media cover it. Be sure to have ppl video the event too, so you can post it up on various video sites like YouTube. If you can come up with a cool theme for these events (I suppose just coming out in hippie gear might work - or an impromptu marijuana smokeout - I like THAT!) you'll get more coverage, and more hippies attending the next one. Of course this is assuming SOME hippy somewhere actually has a cellphone... That is a movement that can grow by using the LATEST interactive media like cellphones and ipods (the Internet is old hat anymore). I like the idea of the smokeout. Lemme see how ppl in the MJ forums feel about that...
Well, its interesting that i am in this thread today... because it is not my normal digs on the hipforums. I live in delaware, on a farm... we live a free life here, and we (my partner and I) have been very interested in starting a group. Last week we made the decision to "organize" to try and bring some clarity to our area and get people to connect with one another. We have decided on "Mind Jam" as our group name. We are explaining it as a group to come and use your mind as your instrument and jam. We are going to use the group to discuss everything from politics to cooking and everything in between. We will be planning trips, protests, all night gatherings, yoga classes, archeological-type expeditions, and pretty much anything else people are into. We are going to have a wide range of people, and we hope to include as many people as possible in effort to help each other learn the lost art of connecting with other people. I think that this what you mean when you say "help" and i hope that this idea is appealing. The idea is really taking on its own life and people are very excited. (it actually is little more well recieved than i originally thought it would be...) Anyone could do this. All you need is people and place to meet. We are going to have everyone bring a dish to share with the group. I am sure that the whole concept will evolve but these are the "seeds," if you will. we are giving ourselves a month to prepare, with the first meeting being held in march., It would be my suggestion that people begin gathering, or organizing in this way. It will end up behooving us all if we have gathered to consider alternative lifestyles and ideas when the shit comes down...and it IS coming. Peace and Love
I agree. Becomeing active is the way to solve problems. And we appreciate the work you've done in that area. Thank you for your efforts, Skip.
I still say that not even the people here are motivated enough to make change happen. You get a bus rolling and I'll get on it though.
I'm not a hippie, but can I join? I'm from NJ. Let's do it! Let's go to DC and punch people... lol Let's throw rocks at cars and deny ever doing it! yeah, yeah... that's what it's all about. yaaa baby I think hip hop has killed the hippie movement LOL
