I don't think that you understand the political process of this country. You are not voting for a "candidate". The candidate is just a representative of a political party, it's supporters, lobbyists acting upon it, and so on and on and on until everything is covered in greasy corruption.

In a way, voting based on the president's individual "merit" makes you no better than the people who vote based on skin colour.

Might achieve a whole lot socially... helping raise the level of education, potentially fixing the tax problem (yet not extremely likely), paving way for better healthcare, more gay rights, less religion in government, and maybe even decriminalization of marijuana.
