Fear isn't even entering into the equation. Being prepared is not the same as being afraid. Again, my neighborhood is perfectly safe. I am on excellent terms with my neighbors and even go shooting with two of them.
I'd prefer to ensure my property was extremely secure and I had an alarm system fitted before I entertained the idea of a gun. I have read that there was an increase in gun ownership but a near 25% fall in crime - I'm not sure if the two are related. But it's a good argument, none the less. Would an intruder continue on if a loud intruder alarm was blaring away? I personally wouldn't want to shoot at somebody from my bed in the dark or prowl around my house with a gun in my hand looking for the intruder.
Good, but not perfect. I meant sensors to detect intrusion and also trespass onto your property (lawn etc).
sig But you are so unafraid that you feel you need a number of just in case guns to protect you just in case? If you were really unafraid ‘just in case’ guns wouldn’t even enter your head. The only reason you are prepared is because you fear it happening.
Well, if that is what you can come up with through the internet and across the pond, then more power to ya. It couldn't be further from the truth though. Fear is a strong word that, I think, you're far to quick to fling. To be honest, though, I am not surprised at your conclusion. So many foreigners make the same mistake as you in thinking they have a handle on, and understanding of, American culture.
I agree. Is it more appropriate to suggest you have a slightly irrational apprehension towards the unlikely event of a home intrusion or an over-night revolution were you might be called to arms?
Sig LOL - I’m not the one with several ‘just in case’ guns, I think fear is the right word for someone that feels they need several just in case guns. Oh I don’t think I have ‘a handle’ on American culture, but I’m sure I’m not the only one who’s noticed you don’t seem to be addressing what I’ve said - beyond just telling me I’m wrong because you thing I’m wrong.
odon I think apprehension is more a cup of tea and a chat with a mate about it, it is not having several ‘just in case’ guns.
You have to wonder how many Americans have guns just in case or because they want to be prepared. Perhaps you are not one to be fearful, or irrational. Perhaps you are just over cautious.
And that is you're call. I am not saying you should have "just in case" guns or that you are wrong for not wanting them. That said, I am not going to make the leap by saying you don't own guns because you're afraid of them. Yet you feel as though you have handle enough to through out a blanket declaration that we "fear" our fellow citizens? I'm an American living an America. I live in the culture, in so far as there is an American culture, that you are attempting to generalize. I am telling you it is not as clear cut as you would believe.
I certainly cannot speak for all Americans. For me, I just like having my i's dotted and t's crossed.
Sig It seems to me that to have several ‘just in case’ guns as preparation you must be rather fearful.
