I agree (for once) with gecko--read.
I sure as fuck wish I'd had a grow book back in '67 when I started to grow. It would have saved me sooooo much hassle.
The first few years I didn't even know how to get buds--I just grew it and picked the leaves throughout the summer or late summer (when there was no weed around) if I could wait that long. By the time Sept. rolled around the plants were dead. I could never understand why the pot I grew (leaves) didn't look like the pot I bought, or why it didn't get me very high. One year I forgot about this one plant behind the garage. I was cleaning up weeds back there in late Oct. when I found it. Only 18" tall but HEY! BUDS!!
If I had known that from the git-go I would have harvested a lot more buds (and been the envy of my friends cause NO ONE knew how to get buds).

A growbook is especially good if you haven't ever grown anything before. Most grow books help you understand how things grow, knowledge that you can use to grow lots of stuff like veggie's.
Trial and error is fine if you don't care if you grow any buds or not.
The more you know the more you'll grow.

hey man nice growing place real private, I wish I could get a place like that.
again, nothing personal but think before you talk, ninth grade biology has taught thousands of young folk that anything in the plantae kingdom uses chloiphill and all chlorifill is green, google weed growing or something about it, thats how I found what I know, females are taller, w/ flowers and better weed. ninth grade also taught me that or good sex(reproduction)it take xx-xy chromosomes (except for some african tree frogs which arent plants) so it would probably help haveing dude plants to band the dudette plants to make wee little new plants.

I'm beginning to understand why you failed biology.
Male pot plants are taller than females. They need to be, their pollen is windbourne.
Female plants don't grow flowers. They grow buds.
Males do grow primitive flowers, tiny little banana-shaped things that are exposed as the pollen sacs on the male plant open.
See Nolan, flowers exist for only 1 reason: to attrack pollenators like bee's (and in the case of the suaro cactus, bats). But prob. over 99% of pot pollen uses wind, not insects, to get around, so they never really had to develop true flowers, they were doing fine without that. Plants with true flowers evolved later.
Btw Nolan, do you know that marijuana is one of the few plants on earth that have seperate sexes? Almost every other plant has both sexes on the same plant.
(although marijuana plants can sometimes contain both; these are called hermaprodites. They are often caused when the plant experiences stress; it's a survival technique). But most are either male or female.
