Why do backcombed dreads seem to stay at the root? it's almost like until they get a really good hold, peoples hair grows thru them, while the dreads remain at the base.

Roo, I think I know what you mean. it may appear that way. however, my roots have always been tight. that is all new growth. i'm lucky not to be one of those people to fret over inches of unlocked roots. or wait, did you mean how my tips are unlocked? that's because i haven't done any maintenance on them. they just won't lock. evaaaar!
