I call it toast and cheese... mayo ruins the taste of everything... and is thick and blech... mozzarella cheese, tomatoes and little bit of onion on marble rye bread is very good...
You are a dedicated mayo fan... Don't be glum about it... You could switch from eating it to applying it to your hair instead..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_cheese While I love cheddar (EXTRA sharp) and it's ability to clog arteries, American cheese is pretty standard for sandwiches over here. x
i needs me some hair mayo. my hair is trashed. any rate, many of us who grew up broke ate loads of american/government cheese. it's wonderful, melts better than anything else and tastes like heaven. when i make my grilled cheese sandwiches, similar to croque monsieurs in europe, i melt a little butter in the pan, salt the butter, lay down the slice of bread, two slices of velveeta cheese, a slice of ham and the other slice of bread. i cover it and let it cook until the bottom slice is perfectly toasted. then i lay down another pat of butter, flip the sandwich, give it a good hard press with the spatula, recover and cook until the other side is perfectly toasted. they're such unhealthy things that i don't eat them very often. i prefer to serve it up with a bowl of tomato soup, for dipping.
i like toasting my bread a little first, spread some butter on it, let it melt and absorb into the bread. i do this while heating the pan up, throw down some butter on the pan, then i'll lay a piece of bread down, put 2 slices of american cheese on, then the other piece of bread. flip when the bottom side is golden and toasty
I didn't cook it. I just slapped everything together and cooked it in a buttered pan. Came out great. FTW means "for the win." As for your second question, I don't really know, but I eat it anyway... Velveeta weirds me out a little bit. I either get the American cheese from the deli or the Kraft singles rip-offs. American really does melt better, but have you ever tried to eat it straight and cold? Gawd, it awful...
i would never have considered in my life doing such a thing as eating it cold. my kids have before, but then, they also grabbed butter out of the fridge and chewed on it. i figured they were dying for some cholesterol. they need it for brain development, after all. blech. i like the kraft singles, too, but the cheap knock off brands are HORRIBLE. never buy them. on my regular sandwiches, i love all kinds of cheese. but for my grilled cheese sandwiches, it has to be american.
