I voted for Robert De Niro but Samuel L Jackson must be just about the most versitile actor alive today... Since we seem to be discussing adopted Americans, how about Gary Oldman too? I love watching Bram Stoker's Dracula and Leon on the same night.
Edward G .Robinson. Watch him in Double Indemnity. Also Samual L Jackson in Pulp Fiction. Rod Steiger for his sheer versatility. Watch him in In the Heat Of The Night. Claude Rains as Prince John in The Adventures Of Robin Hood. Rita Hayworth in Gilda. Paul Newman in Hud. Warning some veg*ns might get upset watching this movie. That is all I can think of for the time being.
i think on the list it goes to deniro, but denzel is the shit, and samuel L jackson is the man as well. He was the shit in pulp fiction, bad ass motherfucker
big fan of Jack Nicholson, although questioning his last couple films, not too keen on those... saw a black-and-white film of one of his first when he was young, wow he was pretty hot....
I must agree with Charlie Chaplin. Or indeed, anyone from the Silent Era. I don't really like anyone listed except for Tom Hanks.
I had a hard time choosing between Pacino and Brando because The Godfather is my fav. movie ever, but who could it go to other than Brando, man?
Mel Gibson isn't even American, but I guess that's a case for him being a great actor. From that list I'd have to choose Al Pacino.
That is debatable as his parents were Americans but he did train at RADA. However he has spent most of his career in Hollywood.
Have none of you seen a sidney poitier movie? I give him an honorable mention. Out of those mentioned so far, its tough to choose one.....Pacino, scent of a woman is brilliant WHO AHHH.
Although I like Jimmy Stewart and Jack Nicholson more... DeNiro can play comedy, drama, mob, horror, prison/crime, etc... He can play a psychopath, a mobster, or someone's Dad in romantic comedy. DeNiro is EXTREMELY versatile.
As the topic says:'The all-time greatest American movie actor: I would nominate any of the following: Burt Lancaster Clarke Gable James Stewart Marlon Brando (who I voted for in the poll) Vincent Price Clint Eastwood (but not for his acting skills)
