hehe, why not thought? Theyre live shows arent anything like the album, they jam into songs, I passed a joint round the room that we watched them in, and I bought some acid in the parking lot. It was exactly like a phish show but with (what I think to be) better music, and the exact same type of people except they werent wearing tye-dye and patchouli. Hmmm,
Well I would say anyone on http://www.jambase.com/ is a certified full fledged member of the Jam community.
not quite, there are actually quite a few different genres of music at jambase. There is basically these types of basic music that most music fall into music classical, country, rock and roll, so on and so on i think jam band falls mostly into a maix of folk, rock and roll, blues and other stuff but i could talk about this forever but just dont feel like typeing
many influences i've noticed in jam bands... folk country rock (of course) soul jazz blues... i know that the mars volta are very "indie rock" at points. and good point magnificent... jambase puts many different varieties of music on their website... and also, i'm a member of the boards over there too...
Well, I was trying to be sarcastic, but I find it weird that The Smiths and Oasis would be considered the first indie bands, I thought it was a primarily American thing brought about by the rise of the thousands of independant(indie) labels like Sub pop and such who had started to compete with Majors. I know that an indie band like Thursday sounds nothing like and indie band like the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, who also sound nothig like At the Drive In, who also sound nothing like Oasis. Ill have to read about this more now. Thanks!
Hahaha check this out, I was looking for some Indie Rock info http://www.soyouwanna.com/site/syws/indierock/indierock.html
The first "indie" band I remember (I mean that made it big enough for me to still remember them) was REM . (btw, they don't jam. When I saw them live they almost put me to sleep.) I remember indie rock as a movement that became known through american college radio stations during the mid 80s.
yeah, it's true REM could be considered indie too, i guess it's a genre that has evolved from many different influences.
it's still going strong man... i worked at my school's radio station and there's nothing but independent music there... hell, it's an independent radio station itself.
that's what i don't like too much. you know how "emo" has emerged as a genre or whatever. now you've got peeps who try to be strictly "emo", which i don't really understand. but whatever, i love indie rock as much as any other genre out there...
ha! how about one day, i'll wear some tie dye for my jamband days, a basketball jersey for my rap days, then a jamaican flag shirt for my reggae days... you know cause if i were to change my personal style with the music i listen to, you wouldn't know who i was...
Ill break out my flannels and ripped jeans for my PJ and Nirvana area, switch the fannels for a black sweater when I listen to my Jazz, add black horn rimmed glasses and messy hair for my emo and indie, and switch out the sweater and flannels for a dead shirt for my hippy shit. hahaha lordy
haha... ok, anyways back on topic... i'm gonna say this just one more time cause i don't wanna come across as spamming or anything, i'm just trying to get the word out because i'm very excited, and if you guys are really interested in the jam scene, then definitely check out www.langerado.com... you will be pleasantly suprised.
I would come man, to far though and Im off to Cali this spring so no money. Looks awesome though the lineup is great.
