Most dogs offer unconditional love, regardless of how they are treated. How many people do that? If you can be humble for the moment it takes to love a dog (or a cat), then maybe your spirit is growing up healthy. When you can see a dog's divinity, then you are more likely to see the divine everywhere. Or, to paraphrase the words of a wise man, "I tell you the truth when I say, what you do to the humblest of these, my brethren, you do to me." Peace and Love
It is not a scriptural story, Gnaneshwarji lived in the late 13th century and it was an event well noticed and recorded. Bill, anything is possible. Absolutely anything. 300 years ago intellectuals would have considered someone a lunatic for suggesting that man could fly. Today it is commonplace. By the way, have you ever heard of parrots?
I couldn't agree with you more...I really think this is something that we all forget because the world and "reality" and society beat us around...that we lose our ability to accept what is considered phantasmigoric ...magical...or even miracles... Some of it is just so...myth...but still...to have some kind of belief...or just to expand our imaginations...that's something I think that most feel children have to lose...and I wish they didn't have to...not all the way...I wish we could all walk that fine line between reality and imagination sometimes...I really think it helps us to realize the magic that lives within us all...as long as it hurts no one...I see no problem in it... ...I don't know if that's just me...perhaps I work with children too much.
Sorry if I'm ignorant about this, but I thought the Chaitanya Caritamrita was a scripture. Parrots are simply mimics - they don't know what they're saying.
I didnt get the story from Chaitanya Charitamrita. I havent read the text myself, but I dont think the story of Jnaneshwarji is in it. It is a tale that has pased down by word f mouth as far as I know. Parrots are just mimics, but the point is that they are capable of producing the sounds necessary for human speech. You said, "No other animal is capable of human speech for the reasons I gave before. If one appeared to be speaking, it could only be according to the subjective awareness of those present who observed it. A type of hallucination." I dont think a parrot speaking is a hallucination, no more than the rest of this world anyway.
I think somehow we've got our wires crossed Bhaskar - I was commenting on the quote from Chaitanya Caritamrita posted by Chief Cowpie. I agree that I wasn't 100% accurate when I said no animal can produce human sounds - ok, parrots, minah birds, even budgies can imitate them. But in the case of other mamals it isn't possible. I saw a documentary on tv a couple of years ago where they showed how the position and size of the human voicebox is different than primates even, Scientists say this is necessary for human speech to be possible. Unfortunately, I can't remember much detail on this.
Didnt they also tell you levitation is impossible? Thing is, science is very limited. What we see and know is very very very very little. And when one has merged with brahman, nothing is impossible for that person, for he is one with the creator of the world.
Ok - can such an illuminati draw a map so complex that it requires 5 colours to fill it in without 2 colours sharing a common border? I say not without changing all the laws that govern this world of matter.
Obviously I'd be foolish just to say 'no!' I can't see that it's possible without the witnesses to such an act all being transported into a higher consciousness. Either way, I don't personally attach too much imporatance to miraculous happenings. Better just to cultivate one's own consciousness of the Divine.
I agree, one's focus should be on the inner life but I think it would it would be very rude of you Bill if a dog should say "hello, how are you doing ?" or "have a nice day" for you not to respond in some appropriate fashion... sorry but that's just the way it is
If it ever happens Chief, I'll be sure to say hello right back, and maybe even politely ask a few questions........
