^^^Good point.--I would guess that most of BBC Americas viewers mistakingly think it is representative of the real BBC.Afterall it has the 'BBC' name on it.---BBC America used to show more authentic higher quality BBC shows, but that no longer is the case.I wonder if it's under new ownership, and just using the BBC name.--But not to worry that much,BBC America these days probably only has about 4 viewers.lol--
It is owned and operated by BBC Worldwide, but with no BBC remit to follow. BBC Worldwide is the profit driven arm of the BBC, and tend to put on what is popular out of the whole of British terrestrial TV. Gordons programme was originally on The F Word | Food | Channel4.com It seems to help if there is a box set they can flog too. I was part of the BBC America Forum for a while... BBC America has had people complaining it isn't really the BBC, for atleast 6 years.
Good post odon.--BBC America used to regularly show classic Britcoms like, "Are You Being Served?","Keeping Up Appearances" and alot more. They no longer air any of those shows. It's unfortunate because American viewers are being denied quality English television .Instead they just show the worst of British tv-- Gordon Ramsey .-As far as BBC America airing what's popular out of the whole of British TV,they are not even doing that.--PBS(public televison) is more English than BBC America,at least they air a few Britcoms and BBC news with no adverts.
It does look like they are aiming it at a younger audience. "How many 16-24year olds would want to watch Monarch of the Glen or Are you being served?" - I'm sure they asked themselves. "Not many" - came the response from the focus groups. To be fair, I looked at their schedules, and I'd watch it...it isn't that bad. But, it certainly isn't the BBC and it certainly isn't for everybody.
