good hippie colleges

Southern Illinois University Carbondale isn't bad. The town is totally liberal and with The Cave and Zoe within driving distance, there are tons of festivals around. Makanda is a great town to live in if you are a "hippie" and are going to school.

 

Naropa University in Boulder, Colorado. The only Buddhist inspired university in the U.S.A. They offer meditation instruction, yoga, arts, to name a few and those are just extra activities. How is the school for art? I'm a senior and I just don't want to do over high school since I am in a magnet school...here's some of my work...

dude i know what you're saying i'm trying to get my ass to asheville, denver, or chicago or something...i hate it here. i live in palm harbor. i'm the only artist i know. sweet! there are so many people here that pose as things they are not...belief system wise...

Anyways. I have similar thoughts. Most likely more pathetic to him than just weed. In my search for a good hippy college with a lot of chill people I also desire a school with a lot of psychedelic drugs. I want a school that has a lot of acid around. I'm sorry if this sounds stupid to you folks. But I'll always have the desire to expand my mind.

 

A bit on edge, are we?? Geez, he didn't say anything to get bent out of shape over, but seriously, NO school is gonna promote smoking weed, even the hippie ones. They might turn a blind eye better, but if you get caught, you get caught wherever you go to school. And yea, that's a lame reason to pick a college, it gives me an idea of how life is gonna be for ya after school.

I have three words for you my dear friend: UNIVERSITY OF VERMONT.

Holy shit. Since CT is pretty close we get drugs from up there all the time...a little less than two grams of mushrooms and I was translating pyschedelic messages from the great cosmos via plastic-cup-phone in a crazy log cabin I later christened "Nebula's Crazy House of Patterns". Insane.

Well, if you manage to convince your parents to let you come out here, try UC Berkeley or University of San Francisco. The academics will kick your ass, but you have to remember that they had the free speech movement right on the UC Berkeley campus in the 60's and they were positively steeping with hippie on the USF campus.

In New York, I don't know from personal experience, but one of my friends is going to Adelphi University and she spends more than half of her time toking. She says that the History and Science programs are pretty killer there, so that takes care of the education part as well.

No matter where you go, you'll have the pretentious preps, but these are the schools right off the top of my head that sound pretty "hippie" or liberal. Whatever terminology you want to use.

the california institute of the arts......it's fucking ridiculous.... the other day there was a fire drill and so we all played on the grass and these kids passed out joints, frisbees, and kazoos.....no joke

and i've done some form of drugs/alcohol with almost every one of my teachers..... and you do actually learn a lot here.....it's AWESOME!


oh and there is always a ton of Lucy floating around here....and lots of freedom without judgement(probably the best part)

 

Warren Wilson College is definately the most hipppy liberal college in NC. it is very laid back and people there are outgoing and friendly. pretty much everyone smokes there, and the campus security is comprised of: students.

University of North Carolina at Asheville is the second biggest hippy school in NC i think. Asheville is where its at with cool people and culture. also i would say it has pretty much the best variety of weed in nc.

and third is Appalachian State, pretty good but not as much hippy as the other schools.

(i go to ECU, it fucking sucks. i definately will not be coming back here next year, there are no hippys here.)

 

Eugene Lang College-The New School for Liberal Arts
It's right in the center of Greenwich Village, Manhattan-the center for bohemian life in the city. The school is really stong in the humanities, and you can take classes from other colleges within the new school.
