Can't find my way home by martin torgoff is a really good book about drugs in america starting all the way back in the 40's with the beatniks and jazz musicians and going all the way to the rave parties of the 90's. It has tons of unique stories from different people who were part of the drug culture.
Hmmm ;; Go Ask Alice && Fear and Loathing are amazing Also try reading Crank, about a girl that becomes addicted to meth, and in the sequel to it, Glass, she ends up having a baby by this guy that raped her (If Im right, I forgot alittle lol) .. they are both by Ellen Hopkins, completely great books Impulse by Ellen Hopkins, not all that much about drugs but about 3 teenagers that are in a mental hospital or something like that, also VERY good Burned, by Ellen Hopkins ... not about drugs but about a mormom girl that is sent to live with her aunt and decides she isn't mormon Tweak by Nic Sheff (I'm reading this now, and it is brilliant, i love ittt !!) About a guy addicted to meth and his relapse and recovery And this one isnt about drugs at all, called I heart you, You haunt me its about a girl whose boyfriend died and basically comes back from the dead, as a spirit and sort of haunts her. Pretty good book
"The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test" by Tom Wolfe is a great read. There are many books by Dr. Hunter S. Thompson that relate to drugs but two of my favorites are "Songs of the Doomed" and "The Great Shark Hunt." Irvine Welsh's "Trainspotting" is another great book if you can handle the Scottish dialect. "A Brave New World" by Aldous Huxley is another good one, too. A few people mentioned "The Basketball Diaries" and although I never completely finished the book, I liked what I read. "Junky," Kentucky Ham/Speed," and "Naked Lunch" are all great ready by William S. Burroughs. "On the Road" by Jack Kerouac is another great one, too. These are all I can think of that a regular person might enjoy right now. -NICU
I read the book after watching the film and the film is a really good adaptation of the book. The only difference was in the book there wasn't that crazy "ass to ass" scene.
i heard A Million Little Pieces, a supposedly true story, actually had some of it falsely written by the author.. read it somewhere. anyways my contribution: OPIUM CULTURE, By: Peter Lee excellent read about the culture and practice of opium smoking. has a lot of information about the poppy plant, its origin, chemical makeup, and (a PLUS imo) seems to cast opium and poppy use in a very positive light. the author, peter lee, made it very clear that with the proper diet, excercise, and general lifestyle, opium smoking is not detrimental to a person's health and lifespan. from this book, i learned that the opiates manufactured by pharmaceutical companies today utilize only fractional isolates of the dozens of opiates found in the poppy plant. however, the poppy plant, when used as a whole, is less harmful or something... idk, there's a whole chapter on the topic of chinese yin-yang balances and how that harmony is ruined when processed using modern methods GREAT read, would recommend it to anyone.
I just finished reading a book called Orange Sunshine, which detailed the adventures of the Brotherhood of Eternal Love and their attempts to spread acid through the world. A very interesting, and fast-paced read.

The best drug book I have read is Textbook of Psychopharmacology by various authors. It opened my mind to how these drugs we love actually work in the brain. It is easy to read and if you work hard at trying to understand it, you will be rewarded. Buying a copy is reserved for the rich (over 200USD) but it can be found at your local University.
i agree. i started extensively reading up on neurology for this reason. to understand how the drugs actually work in the brain. it's a fascinating subject.
Christaine F - An Autobiography Of A Child Prostitute And Heroin Addict. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Christiane_F. Good film as well. Also Cain's book by alexander trocchi. There's a link to a review of it in the Junky thread.
I was in to same kind of situation before few months and I did search a lot for it but couldn't find exact book, but once in a books club website I got a comment on my post about Online Books store fro which we can find such books easily. All Best Selling Books , in Famous authors , etc were listed in that website. If you want you can check online it would help you. Cheers Matt :afro:
Well theres one I know of,,, it's really, really old and centers not around any main character but this whole culture of people that ran around "doing DMT" and seeing god as a result. Well, they didnt know it was DMT, but they sure burned alot of Acatia wood back then. I think it's called "the King Jeremy version" or some weird title like that. :cheers2:
