That particular festival is not really ment to be enjoyed in a civilized way. It's one of the reasons why it keeps appealing to me :D

Was it hard to get in? Stiff dress code? Long lines? Have to give the doorman a big tip? LA has that reputation, and so does Las Vegas and Miami.

If somebody just wanted to go to one single club, not move all night, and be able to assume in advance that whatever band they might have on any night is going to be good, I would give my highest recomendation to the BB King's Blues Club in Memphis. The one in Nashville is similar.

Of course! I might have to buy you two drinks - my muscles will be a disappointment in comparison to the bodybuilders' muscles.

Edit: the 2 drinks are to make my muscles seem more impressive. For some reason my post didn't sound right.

Last time I was there, I discovered Frenchman Street. I thought the music venues were awesome. Do you like Bourbon St better?

They are very different. Fewer music options on Frenchman Street, but local people love it, and the Tremé series on HBO pushed it really hard, which will surely help them. If you can catch somebody really good at Snug Harbor, you can definitely spend most of an evening around there. Checkpoint Charlie has a big reputation, but every time I walk by there, it's totally dead. Maybe it's just my bad luck. It's a different vibe. You won't see anybody dancing in the street on Frenchman.

I'm not going to throw stones at any New Orleans music venue, because you never know which one's going to be the best option on your next trip. It's never the same twice in a row. Though the city loves tradition and history, it's in a constant state of change.

To see artists with a big enough reputation to play Snug Harbor, you also need to check Tipitina's, the Howlin' Wolf, the House of Blues, the Maple Leaf, and Carrollton Station. A lot of those shows sell out in advance. Only the House of Blues is in the French Quarter.

As a hardcore jazz fan, I can't overlook the Palm Court Jazz Cafe on Decatur Street, or Preservation Hall on Saint Peter Street.

i just learned that the new owners of the music venue i'm going to tonight might not have a liquor license. so you might not even be able to buy a beer there. i don't care all that much though. i have other forms of intoxicants if i choose to indulge.

I like to take midnight walks around the seedier sides of town. It's a little edgy, but I enjoy the prospect of encountering a little danger.I find that it inspires my creativity,so when I get home I feel like working.

Going out is fun especially when you are with friends who you have a good time with. I love theatre, movies, music and of course dining out. Not as keen on things like shopping but sometimes do so as some of the others really enjoy it.

Shopping, movies, etc,is all part of the conventional systematised world, like watching TV,current affairs of the day,all a diversion from the essential discovery of self and immediate reality..Of course I do all that, but I am seeking a more direct connection with the sublime and preternatural where I can be truly free.
