Us and them was easily one of the sickest, illest, hospital bed sick,mental hostpital bed sick,death bed sick type of songs pink floyd had..I remember getting really lost in it on my way home right after my acid trip while i was stilll tripping

 

personally, that music would freak me out if i was tripping.

The MONO VERSION of "The Piper at the Gates of Dawn" by Pink Floyd. It is the definition of psychedelic rock, and it is a lot different from the progressive rock the band would later play in the 70's.

The stereo version of "Piper..." sounds butchered and less psychedelic than the original mono mix. There are many missing studio and vocal overdubs/effects. For example, "Interstellar Overdrive" has a missing organ overdub for the intro.

The band wasn't involved with the stereo mix at all. Some studio technicians mixed it in only 9 hours. Until 1968, stereo was usually a marketing afterthought, and bands spent their effort and dedication on the mono mix.

This is true of many artists, such as The Beatles, whose "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds" is nothing without the vocal effects in the mono version.
