fuck you, its not about the laws. Its about the attitude, the people. I think it was one of America's purest times. When America still had a lot to offer, a lot of opportunities that weren't available anywhere else. It was a much more fun time.
my dad lived thru the 60s/70s and he's fucked up...alot of the "idealized" parts of the 60s were awesome, but there was so much more going on...eh i'm happy living now, right now i'm all about living in the moment and besides we get to see the end go down, 2012 here i come! and yeah pavel i fucken love you!
to say that is pretty naive. You should appreciate the life you live in, and it the best it can be, not dwell on something that you've never experienced. Not to mention you are basing the 60's off an image you've only been told about not felt, alot of bad things happened in the 60's too. For all you know you could have been drafted.
Thank you, kind lady Meanwhile... tis true... cigg machines being re-instated is a great thing. But I just loved the 5604 battle for this legistlature. The great lawyers... and that one talking lung... his testimony was spectacular. I still love to get my smokes off a machine though, it's just so much more humaine. ...and Jess... lets like... hmm... make babies.
that truly would have been awesome to live in the 60's i wish i could have but that's the way life goes you're born when you're born but it still would have been awesome!
your very much welcome, sir.... I know having to deal with people is such a drag..lol =] literally, sometimes people can be a huge drag..
20s? when women in America barely had the right to vote, Blacks and other minorities were intimidated away, doctors so high on science decided it was more "sanitary" for children to be fed cow milk forumlas rather than mother's milk as the rule, most of the nation was segregated, the Klan was in revival, installment plans were keeping people wage slaves (like today) the Dust Bowl caused farmers and ranchers to lose their land and become wage slaves, Rosewood, Fla. ( http://www.displaysforschools.com/history.html ) , Tulsa Race riot, the beginning of the Red Scare, birth control was illegal, eugenics, exclusion acts, prohibition and gangsterism. yeah, great times. What people foget is it is restrictive times like that, or the late 1950s into the 60s and I dare say now that creates an environment for great cultural change
The "Sixties" or what people regard as the Sixties was the period roughly from 1967 untill say 1972. The end of Vietnam and the impeachment of Nixon were centrifigual events that broke apart The Movement. The Draft ended in 1974 Disco broke out in 1974 The Stonewall riots happened in 73/74, NYC. Hippiedom lost its cult status and broke out to the mainstream after Woodstock. Up untill 1965 / 66 it was still Eisenhowers America. It was an exciting, idelaistic time. A time with shared goals and anticipation of great events for the future.
I'm not really one to say how I wish I was born in a different era, but if I was to live through one it would be the New York/San Francisco scene of the late 50's and early 60's. It's not as if the people of the time thought to themselves "Wow, this period is going to go down in history!", it's only till after and when they look back on it. Also, someone mentioned how there were always protests in the 60's to go to...Excuse me, but the fewer protests there are in the world, the better the period of time is. Do you actually want something to complain about? Jesus...
In 2077, people will be looking back fondly and nostalgically on 2007, and saying "God, why wasn't I born in the 10's?
I'd say there are more protests, but less of a unified nature like March(es) on Washington (that could change). Where I live, there are monthy peace gatherings. Some big enough for the capitol, some not. Some are just the same three or four people on the same corner on the same day each week. Then add the Move On inspired/ catalogued gatherings, some of which are large and some pathetically small. I think too that people in the "hippie era" did see themselves as revolutionary and able to change the world, overall. then there were the drop out of society types, back-to-the-landers and people JUST around for the kicks and drugs.
how do you know? i'm not looking for a timemachine, i'm just looking for a way to have fun, be free and stick to my ideals, i think more people should do that
