You might need to modify that to "Judeo-Christian", since most of the leaders of the movement are Jews.

Oh, I know, but I was trying to be polite.

Its not Jews in general, but a very distinct group of them. Both the neocon and zionist movements are their babies.

I'd hate to meet the parents.

I know fairies exist and created this world. I know that no matter what i do the fairy mother will always still love me. I know this because I feel it deep down in my heart for a fact.

Makes just as much sense doesn't it? And all i did was replace the name. Because that's all that god came from, a creation to fill in the blanks of our world.

Yes, leviticus. I'm not misquoting anything. Leviticus 20. If everything in the OT is to be discarded, why isn't it? Why is it in the bible? Otherwise, you're just picking and choosing what is true in there, aren't you? Yes, it is important that some books were discarded. Equally "valid" gospels were discarded because they didn't fit in to some plan, and men decided what should be included in the word of god.

And, yes, neurotransmitters and chemicals in the brain. I'm not making some vast overarching theory of how the mind works. I'm saying that every your brain is not influenced by supernatural forces, and what you feel and interpret as god is a normal biological function. And for the record, world renowned scientists 100 years ago, or even 50 or less, knew a fraction of what we know now. Galileo, Darwin, Leeuwenhoek, etc, I would say had less that .001 percent of the knowledge we now have in any given scientific field. Neuroscience has advanced more than you imagine. Take more biology.

And lastly, I'm saying I DO understand that feeling. I have had it. But since I haven't already concluded that there is a god, and he loves me, and he wants to contact me by beaming abstract feelings of love directly into my brain, I don't automatically conclude that I am being contacted by a divine being. That's how I do that.

    One more thing...lighten up, you're a jerk.

well...i kinda have to be a jerk dont I?

here I am in a CHRISTIANITY forum, and i get assaulted by like 50 different people b/c of my faith. you know, for a group of guys who has the world figured out and has completely dubunked religion, you all sure do spend a lot of time in the religious forums.....just an observation.

    freakersoup...man...

i dont think God sends magical rays of love to my brain and sprinkles magic powder on my while I sleep. As a matter of fact, I don't think God really takes time out of his exsistence to witness me and be with me. It's my place to find my way to him, not the reverse. so i really don't know what you talking about. my faith gives me euphoria, but it isn't from God. I never claimed that.
When you practice a faith that preaches peace and love, and you cherish every life as it was your own, you really feel good man. maybe you guys should try it sometime instead of filling you life with pessimism and hate.

the old testament tells us where we came from. It shows the beginnings of the faith and that of mankind. Since Jesus came, it is not meant to be taken as the law. that's what i meant when i said misquoting. i would not go stone an adulter, just b/c it is in the old testament. once again, Jesus changed everything.

Jesus changed everything for those who liked his message in the land he preached it, but his message is not unique to the world.

India has an ancient history, and many of the spiritual masters that came from there say pretty much the same thing. They did this for thousands of years before Jesus was born.

White people in the western world were a little slow in catching on.

yes but you have to admit that no one has been as influential as him, or as widely known.

Apologies, my posts have been more with the OP in mind than you. My point to you was that there is a good deal of violence in the bible. You seem to be saying that the OT was true for a time, and most of it was sort or rescinded after Jesus.

Why the difference? It's the same god, right? Did he change, or was the bible wrong? He went very much from an ancient god with the human emotions and the blood sacrifices and killing many people and ordering many people killed to a god all about love. Now he wants you to love your enemy and turn your cheek. How did that happen?

Thanks to modern technology, not because Christianity is so original.

The western world is largely Christian. As we were at the forefront of things like radio and television, we were able to get the Christian message out around the world first.

Islam is now nipping at the heels of Christianity as far as numbers are concerned. Both these religions gain strength through their very active recruiting practices and organized lifestyles. People like what they see. Especially those who have little in the way of organzational skills themselves.

Very few of these followers will ever approach the spiritual heights needed to escape from the religions they join. They follow, only half understanding what they've read from their respective holy books. They become the drone bees of the hive. Can't lead, but they will gladly follow. (And swarm, if the attack order is given)

This sets the stage for disaster at the hands of those who lead religions. Their human shortcomings and spiritual blindness eventually leads to wars, in the name of God.

You don't have to look very far down the road today to see what's coming.

well, regardless of what ppl say about God being omniscient, I really don't think he can see the future. I mean, how can he predict something that doesn't even really exist. God can have regrets. Just like when he brought the flood, he was plagued that he even made us. He is a jelous God, but all that violence, I just don't know. but it's kind of like the same thing with the Crusades and all the violence modern day Christians wage. did God REALLY tell them to act like that? we can just never know.

All I can do is live by the message of Jesus Christ. Whether there is a God or not, whether he was the messiah or not, it really is an amazing message. I live by peace and love and God, and to me, those are the only real aspects of christianity. Fortunately, it is all I need.

Let's say, He evolved. One explanation, advanced by some early Christians like Marcion and the Gnostics, is that He is not the same God: Yaweh, who created the world, was an inferior diety to the God of Jesus. Of course, that idea didn't make it in the religious struggle for survival. I tend to favor another explanation: that human ideas of God changed for the better over the centuries. The "process theology" of Daniel Day Williams, Tielhard de Chardin, etc., fits with the conception that God is a dynamic, not static, entity. God is, among other things, an idea that is working itself pure.

Let's just say He evolved. One explanation, advanced by some early Christians like Marcion and the Gnostics, is that He is not the same God: Yaweh, who created the world, they said, was a different diety than the "hidden God" of Jesus. Of course, that idea didn't make it in the religious struggle for survival. I tend to favor another explanation: that human ideas of God changed for the better over the centuries. Karen Armstrong develops this theme in her History of God,dealing with the Abramic tradition of Judaism, Christianity and Islam. Another possibility, if you're not allergic to metaphysics, is that God is a developing, dynamic force in search of increasing knowledge and self-awareness through the instrumentalities of the material universe, including humans. The dialectical idealism of Hegel and the "process theology" of Daniel Day Williams, Tielhard de Chardin, etc., fit with the conception that God is, at least partly, a dynamic, not static, entity. God is, among other things, an idea that is working itself pure in a progressive quest for increasing consciousness and unity in the diversity of complex, specified information. The static God of Genesis reflects the difficulty humans have thinking in terms of the relativity of time.

Look guys, if she wants to express her knowledge & love for her belief & God...let her. Many dont believe in Christianity at all...so shoooo

This is a big problem in the world today...everyone thinking they know what is REALLY out there. What IF God exists? What IF there is a goddess? Have you been there? Have you proven yourself that God doesnt exist?

Too many people wanting to down others just because they dont believe in one belief or another. Get over yourself. If she wants to express herself let her. This is why peace isnt a reality too much whining and witching over what's there and what isnt. Get over it.
