You are in a pleasant mood today.. it is a shame chaz and dave are not playing, but you are not being realy fair.
updates from glasto kelsos tent has been washed away him and someone else i think have been refugeed, but other kind forumers are accomodating the tentless ones...everyone else is very wet
I agree ... however some of the comments on here came across as gloating rather than just mere banter. If they were just meant as lighthearted jesting then I take back what I said and put it all down to tiredness and reading too much into things.
I've never been to Glastonbury Festival ... When I was into that scene all the proper festivals were free and Glastonbury was where you went if you were into pop/commercial shit ... It also cost £12 to get a ticket. Still, each to their own. Well they could hardly have changed it could they? I can imagine the thought processes ... "Oh dear it looks like rain, I think I'll go next week when it's quieter instead, or maybe I should leave the tent and take a small house on stilts. Hey, I know, I'll just miss out on all the money I've spent and watch it on telly"
Yeah, it turns you into a smug, gloating bitch Get outta here!!! Glastonbury was the biggest free festival of the lot! First time I went to Pilton was in the back of a battered old ambulance with the convoy, and it didnae cost a fooking penny! Never met another person all weekend who paid for their ticket, either. It's only recently that it's become a proper 'paying' festie, which is why I won't go anymore. Atmosphere ain't the same. Back in the day, there were more people there who'd got in for free than there were actual paying ticket holders. The only people who paid for tickets were stupid students with too much money. Which was fine, coz they kept the hippy dope dealers in business and kept prices down for the rest of us As for 'pop/commercial shit'.... ummm.... nah mate. Why d'you think the travellers were all there? RDF, Ozrics, Hawkind, Oroonies.... fuck, every underground festie band used to play at Glasters. Not to mention all the dub and world music. Fucking hell, Paul. I swear you're getting more cynical than me!!!
You're such a wannabee Yeah, I remember the first time I went after the convoy got barred, stumbling into the field where they used to accomodate all the travellers. Seeing tents where there used to be brightly painted buses, ambulances, trailers and flatbeds was like a punch in the fucking face. Think it killed it for me right there and then. In a wierd quirk of fate, now that I can afford a ticket, I'd never pay for one. And in a somewhat weirder quirk of fate, if people could still get in for free, I wouldn't mind paying for a ticket. I think it's the idea of being entirely surrounded by people who can afford to get in at that price that puts me off. I'd prefer a little diversity.
I wouldn't know about that .. I spent all my time at the month long festival at Stonehenge where the only fences we jumped were the barriers to the stones at solstice time. in 1984 Stonehenge had Hawkwind, The Ozrics (debut), Roy Harper, The Enid, Chemical Alice, Man, the invisible band ... Glastonbury had Aswad, The Style Council and the Smiths
Did people clean up after themselves during the past festivals? One thing I noticed at Glastonbury 2004 was the utter amount of shite that was left in the field on the last night/day. It was honestly like a bomb site. I know there are people employed to clean it up, but what does it take them, two weeks? I don't know why, but the sight of that field covered in all kinds of rubbish you can imagine got to me. Maybe I'm getting old...
It was like that the first time I went in '92, an absolute shithole. A crap job for the litter pickers but then, they have some great stories about the things they find, money, phones, watches, drugs etc plus the parties that happen each night after everyone's gone.....they probably have a better time than those who've paid for a ticket! I reckon most people don't even think about the mess they leave behind, state of the world don't ya know......
I completely agree with you Love that monkey man fucking genius!!! I'll be keeping my eyes open for any tickets
Good coverage.. freeview had a million channels dedicated to it. I really enjoyed watching it all... Basement Jaxxlooked amazing as did coldplay and the white stripes... brian wilson sounded grand but I did think it was a bit sad.
