I found out (officially) that they do not discard blood of marijuana smokers. They don't even care to test for it. They just don't want you being high during the blood drawing. And they obviously don't want IV drug users.

To give part of yourself to help others is a noble trait [IMG]

You may feel lightheaded at first, the orange juice is good, but look out for that Post-Puncture High

I give blood, but any claims about lives being saved are totally false. Every body dies.

i love that this thread is here. i used to work for the red cross blood service in australia, and it warms my heart to see/read about so many donors and thinking-of-donating people.

stacy lulu, it's probably different in different countries, but in australia and here in finland, you have to wait one year before donating after getting a tattoo, i'd say the states is probably much the same. here is a link to eligibility requirements in the states http://www.redcrossblood.org/donating-blood/eligibility-requirements

and potentially your donation could save more then 3 lives. if your plasma is sent to the processing plant, it could be used to make medicines to help people suffering from various bleeding disorders, autoimmune disease or infections. It can even be used to type blood to ensure compatibility between donor and recipient!

haha, and i only started donating blood in order to overcome my fear of needles! so now i can handle a needle going in to take stuff out, but i still can't handle having immunisations!

Donate blood, save a life today!

Why did you need to overcome the fear of needles? Did you want to start injecting heroin yourself?

Anyways. I Just gave blood. Wasn't too bad at all, kind of felt really good during it and after. Like they took all the blood out that had my negative energy in it. I wasn't having a good day at all. I tried donating double cells, but apparently I don't have the acceptable type.

I'll probably donate again, it was fun, and the girl who sucked my blood was cute and nice.

nah, i just don't like being afraid of them. vaccinations are good, and i want to be able to go and get them without stressing so much. as well as anaesthetic at the dentist.

when i was about 12, i had to get a measles/mumps/rubella vaccination. my school lost my form, so i had to go to the local clinic to get it. i remember seeing the nurse coming towards me with the needle and i just completely freaked out. imagine, if you will, my mum standing there, me running around my mum to get away from the nurse, bawling my eyes out and the nurse chasing me with the needle. pretty embarassing for a 12 year old, and completely not the thing to do nowadays =)

so i figured it would be a good fear to overcome. now the only thing i'm scared of is spiders. they give me the heebie geebies.

I donate blood regularly. I kinda feel I should, since I'm O negative, a universal blood donor. It doesn't take that long and it hardly hurts at all.

Don't know if it's medically related or simply mental but when I give blood I get a rush when the blood starts flowing and then a calm euphoria for about 1/2 hour. Pretty cool really. Anybody else have that experience?

Yes, I'm pretty sure my post donation post on this thread described this, but you did a good job. I can't wait till the next time. I believe it may just be mental, but it's nice. :)
