I like most kinds of music, except for satanic heavy metal like Slayer or Iron Maiden. One band I like is Suicidal Tendencies, because lead Mike Muir echoes many of my attitudes about the world, and I consider his song "You can't bring me down" as sort of a personal anthem because as the song is titled: You can't bring me down. The attitudes of others about me can go to hell.
I also like Arlo Guthrie's music, especially "Alice's Restaurant" because you can get anything you want at Alice's Restaurant!
im gay, and i hate modonna...i dont hate her, i just dont like her music, what modonna is to most gay men, amy lee it to me...i listen to alot of emo, goth, some metal, i LOVE tecno, but it has to b very rock...just rock in general...
I listen to different kinds of music ranging from classical to rock as long as they are nice to me. But recently, I really have to admit that I like Alicia Keys' songs very much!
I'm starting to think it actually might be genetic. Most gay guys i know do have a taste for madonna, cher, etc... and i have to admit...i like me some Mariah!!! haha and this is before i even realized i was gay!
I've wondered the EXACT same thing. I like all music, literally, there's no way to describe my music taste other than 'incredibly diverse'. But I remember, like, 3rd grade and before, liking Madonna, and do even more now. I wonder about similar taste in music some, but physical characteristics even more--I've found a few gay steriotypes to be true, to varying degrees, and wonder why.
yes u right in arab world more gays liked Nawal al zoghbi she is very cute take look from here www.nawalalzoghbi.net
i'm guessing the same reason why "punks" listen to the same "punk" kind of music. music is and always has been a major part of cultures.
While I like Madona, I wouldn't say that I was a big fan of hers. She's alright, but I'm more into Led Zep, Beatles, The Who, and the Rolling Stones. Your just stereotyping here.
I absolutely can't stand that type of music (then again, I'm bi not gay, so maybe that explains it). I think it just mostly applies to the stereotypical gay, who is campy and loves that girly music. and all the other stereotypical crap.
I like everything from death metal to classical to jazz to indie rock to folk. But I mostly listen to classic rock. I just don't like dance music, rap music, techno, and all that other shit.
im sure that by writing this is will probably be tracked down, castrated, lynched and hung from a tree by other members of the gay community, but i am not in any way a fan of madonna or her music, or any other of the homo-admired diva community for that matter. don't get me wrong, I do get my kicks from a catchy pop song every now and again, but I would consider myself a pure blooded classic/acoustic rock man! Now that I look at all the posts before me i guess im not alone in this one! I think the pursuation to that genre of music can be part genetics, but mostly just comes from exposure at an early age.
It's cultural hegemony in action. Most gays - like most other people - will listen to whatever's on, especially in gay bars where there's a big non-musical reason for them to be there (i.e. the dick). So "whatever's on" is decided by the minority who a) give a shit, and b) have the power. In this case, you get diva music because the most obvious (and thus most desirable) gays tend to be attracted to shiny objects and wigs, and you get banging trance because gays like to take a fuckload of drugs and forget about their nightmarish predicament, which lends itself to music that can be mixed easily. I mean, I could be wrong. But it's been my experience that the vast majority of gay people who actually have opinions about music at the very least like other music as well as the standard gay music. I badly need a DJ night at a gay club. You fags would be listening to !!! and LCD Soundsystem whether you like it or not.
