I had someone mention that something "is gay, in a non-homosexual manner of speaking". I admit that I had to laugh at that.

I'm in agreement that gay jokes don't bother me if they're meant as jokes. I've laughed my ass of hearing black comics rip on white people. Chuckled a bit when women rag on men. But I know that they're only JOKES. Of course, I've never been very PC.

I normally don't reply to two year old threads but it seems that it's staying at the top because people keep voting for it. Might as well reply with a joke! Bill Maher was being interviewed on the Tonight Show and they were talking about same-sex marriage and Bill said something along the lines of, "...All marriage is same-sex marriage because once you're married it's the same sex; every night, it's the same sex!"

I personally don't mind gay jokes as long as they are intended to be humorous and not hateful.

I say, they are needed. Cause usually we don't joke about things that are serious. Also if they make gays out to seem like bad people, I will laugh even more. Mostly cause most joke insult people, so why the hell not my people. Also, anyone who is gay and gets offended by a gay joke is way to fuckin emotional. People like that take themselves way to seriously, and are only creating a larger divide.

Now see, this would not bother me at all. I would just say something like...

"Ask your boyfriend/father/brother, he will tell you different."

    or...

"Well only if it's your girlfriend/mom/sister."

I don't have an issue with homosexual jokes overall. For instance, there is jokes about Scots, Texas and Republicans too. It is a problem if they are meant to offend homosexuals.

Aside from really destructive people who can do physical or legislative harm to gays or anyone else, it seems to me that any group should be open to jokes about our/their human foolishness and silliness. Maybe it shows insecurites when one is offended.

Jokes, I feel, are Observations on the way we see life and its predjudices.
Though some can be in really bad taste I guess it says something about the human nature that most do see them to at least some degree humorous.

Though one thing they can do is bring to mind is an openess and honesty, Maybe we don't realise how we all have our favoured cause to dislike / distrust and/or unforgive until we laugh at them without regard
Sexual orientation is only one aspect.
Be it Sex (Male/female etc) Age, Race, Geographical location for instance. One could replace one subject for another but, if a Brunette replaced Blonde in the line "Why was the Blonde happy when she finished a jigsaw in 6 months? - Because the box said '3 to 5 years" - It just doesn't have the same effect
I guess I fall back to "if you can't take it don't give it" attitude
I await the 'Anti-British' observations with anticipation :)

I voted no, but honestly (as a gay guy) feel that it all depends on context and intent. I feel that's true with all humor really.

A U.P.S. guy knocks on a door to deliver a package. A 16 year old boy answers wearing a dress, high heels, lipstick, And drinking a glass of wine. The delivery man somewhat taken back by this pauses for a moment then proceeds to ask the boy if his parents are home. The boy stares back at the man with a look of disbelief as he replies "Does it LOOK like there home?"..... :p

I'm not a very politically correct person and I also think that the major problem with North America, especially Canada, where I live, is that people have gone completely overboard with political correctness. Everyone is so freakin scared to offend anyone over even the littlest of things nowadays and it's pretty sad.

If a gay joke is funny I'll laugh at it and see nothing wrong with it. It's a joke and it isn't meant to be take seriously. I find racial jokes funny as well and have no problem laughing at them or telling them either.

If its funny its fine, if its meant to hurt then it likely isnt funny.
but I have a very dark sense of humor. To me nothing is off limits as long as its funny

People have the right to say their own jokes, as long as they aren't specifically hurtful to an other. I have no problem with gay jokes, even funnier if the people saying them are homophobic, they can just go wallow in their little ticky tacky little boxes.
