where i live they subsidise landowners(?)to grow pines and the like, which are so acidic in nature dont allow almost anything to grow after them.people say"wow this place is lovely,so many trees"now ,any trees is better than none, but the landscape theyre refering to is mostly less than say 70 years old,a quick crop in the bigger picture.nobody wants to plant oak, ewe, chestnut etc coz they want the financial profits while theyre alive, not giving a shit about theyre kids or grand or great-grandkids.
some of the planning permission laws round here demand that you cut down good ol' trees to build a concrete home, coz theyre too close to the house.how fucked up is that?

we had a tree right next to my house and it was between mine and my neighbors, and we just cut it down and i didnt know why ya know i was tellin my dad not to and that it was bad and i got a ll sad, well we have a well right next to the tree that was there before the tree started to grow like 18 years ago, well we cut the tree down and the tree was pushing out well in which ment we wouldnt be able to get drinking water!! or anything water related and i was like well if i needd to drink then cut it down ya know then when we cut it down we found that there was sitting water in the tree, which ment the tree was like rotting fromt he inside or somethin, and the tree the way it looked was like a stump and then two different branches like it was two trees that became one at the stump, so like Y shaped tree, when they cut that part down it split and they said it would have fallen in the next big storm!!! so we are lucky we cut it down and the next week it stormed, so we were lucky! somtimes you need to cut a tree down but now im growing another tree fo that one!

stranger; Why not plant fruit trees, you could buy them from a local nursery, tell whem what sort of thing you want and ask for advice on planting and cultuire, they can be controlled on vigur so not grow too tall and you can get the benefit of fresh organic fruit.
    best wishes

here are some effects of NOT logging and "controlled thinning" of the forest. Over 12,000 acres burned to a crisp, 5,000 people displaced/evacuated, 1,000 structures threatened, over $1,000,000 in resources spent so far, and only 30% contained.

Obviouslly, in this case, a "well managed" thinning operation could have reduced the damage, if not eliminted the possibility of this disaster.

I totally agree...I always offer to take the recycleable stuff people try to throw away home so I can see that it gets recycled. I also hate how obsessed americans seem to be with single use and disposable everything....it's just wasteful and lazy. And on the subject of trees (since this thread is about cutting down of trees)...I also hate how companies chop down all the trees to build subdivisions when they could just as easily build around them. No wonder the subdivision- dwellers seem to have an aversion to being outside...it's just not the same without trees.

And when they cut down all those trees and build those subdivisions and neighborhoods, there arnt any trees in it. HOW CAN U LIVE!! i mean it must be terribly boring to walk outside and see only houses, no trees. Im just glad my neighborhood is FULL of trees and i live on a lake that not a lot of people know about haha. people need to stop cutting down what supports our survival for stupid things.

only cut down a tree if it is helping the enviornment in some way.
LIke that wild fire. were was that by the way?

I certainly couldn't live in a treeless subdivision....I have to have trees. Definitely one of the most beautiful things alive I think, no matter what time of the year it is. How would spring be spring without dogwood trees blooming or fall be fall without raking leaves? And what would a storm be without trees to hear the rain falling on? I don't get how people can chop them down to make construction 'easier' and then live essentially treeless for the next 30 years.....

Maybe they just hate trees? Can't blame em, I hate trees too... but only because they give birds a place to live, and I hate birds.

Its king George and Dicks crusade to make sure all the lands get paved. The logging companys don't donate millions of dollars in campaign funding and expect nothing in return. Its a sad world we live in.

Trees are the gateway to the spiritual realm. I hate it when people cut down trees that have been happily growing for like 60 years, think about the stuff they have seen and went through, and then some young shit head comes and cuts them down for money or whatever reasons. It just pisses me off so bad.

I lived in Florida for 5 years and the thing I really did not like about it was that there was so much development, hardly any trees. There were some huge old ones in the more rural areas. I don't beleive in cutting down trees, not even ones that are dead, because dead ones provide shelter and food for many kinds of wildlife. I'd love to have the free time to be one of those tree sitters that camp out in a big tree to save it. VERY COOL!

as long as it's not near a building or a busy walkway/road, I agree, leave the dead trees up

:( The cutting of trees makes me sick!!! I live in a beautiful place, and very quickly they have been clearing our woods back where we live. It's practically death what you hear out here. Every morning they clear out areas just so they can build houses everywhere. They build these houses where it used to be a forest. Our kids in the future are gonna have to go to a museum just to see a what a tree looks like. It breaks my heart! We must save the world! These are real issues that we need to do something about!

When I was growing up we lived in a very wooded area where I would walk and ride horses, and just basically connect with nature. When I turned 14 some idiot decided to build a subdivison and cut down all the trees. I tried to chain myself to a tree to stop the development, but I was so young that my parents just snatched me up and took me home. I've been back several times since and the area that I used to love so much is just ugly to me now. Pretty soon we won't have any trees if they keep it up. I'm looking into buying a log cabin in the woods now, but who knows, in the next five years they'll most likely cut the woods down too. It makes me sick.
