    I like it! :)

This is definately my favorite band of all time, Big Country. They're from Scotland. Unfortunately the lead singer's dead so they're not really around anymore. Their heyday was more the 1980's. The bassist sang for awhile but it wasn't the same without Stuart. In some of their songs they mimick bagpipes with guitar effects, it's pretty awesome.

Never heard of them before, but I like it! I'll have a listen to some of their songs.

    I love this band :)

They also do a cool version of Dirty Davey.

Most people I know have never even heard of my favourite bands.

I'm actually surpised you've never heard of Big Country, but at the same time I'm not. I've never actually met anyone here ever who's heard of them. From what I've seen though they seemed like they were a mainstream band and very well liked.

What's publicity like over there for bands? Naturally it would depend on what band it is, but like, in North America, mostly the US, bands, like celebrities are made a big deal of. Is it more relaxed over there? Is publicity not as big? Bands here are on tv all the time, like late night shows, there's posters for shows in many places depending on where you go in the city.

Yeah, it depends on the band. Really the people who are made a big deal of are those who win The X Factor, or sing pop music, where its young teenagers who make them big. The pretty people, who mime, dance and cover old songs mainly!

I'd have thought that bands like Big County weren't so mainstream, like the levellers, so don't get the media attention the others do. They have a more cult following, of festival goers, hippies etc. Which is better, because they aren't so commercial and 'fake' in my opinion.

That's funny because the people here who win American Idol or Canadian Idol are never heard of again once the show is over :D

It's annoying, because the final people haven't been shown yet, but the papers are already on it and have chosen favourites. So we have prostitutes and Madonna and Cheryl Cole lookalikes taking up pages in the papers.

That would be annoying. They assume the entire public gives a damn.

Chance, East Of Eden and In a Big Country are probably their best. They are a very good band.

Yep. The only thing worse is when the papers are filled for days with a celebrity couples relationship or break up. It bugs me.

I wish BBAD hadn't mentioned The Pogues, he's got me jumping around to them

They do have some irritating songs. Some are good though.

    Indeed, there is :p

My dad got into them when they were supporting Queen on a uK tour in the 80's

I am actually really quite suprised, since he died, they weren't remembered more. Though, in saying that, they have a very loyal following to this day.

I tried to rep you but it won't let me at the moment, remind me later if I forget.

That they do. It's a shame, it's also a shame that many only know 'In a big country'. It's sort of like their 'Smells like teen spirit'.

Big Country was, unless I'm mistaken the first band to play a publicly accessible concert in Russia. They put on a concert and allowed ticket sales to be available to the general public as opposed to being sold through an agency that reserved tickets for select few classes.
