I take it that you fully expect these events to occur within your reasonable expectancy of life, because I hear you saying that if you're 85 years old, on the verge of certain death, and they still haven't come to pass per your expectations, you would renounce your faith...you can't renounce it after you're dead. I'm really kind of surprised that you would take such a position.
What about the one where Jesus said Matt:24:34: Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Well that generation was a couple of thousand years ago...
What can I say, I have a strong faith in what the Bible states and that is because of its accuracy of it's prophecy.
Man... I must explain this verse about once a week. I think people need to start reading a different translation of the Bible other than the Skeptics Annoited Bible. When Jesus says THIS Generation, who is he talking about... PLEASE I suggest you read the WHOLE chapter rather than torture the one verse. Reading in Context is the key here.
So, what you are saying is that, we should read the bible that is most correct to fit our own personal views? Which one is the infallable one? im confused.
I'm just surprised to hear that you base the veracity of your faith 100% on this prophecy aspect...it's like you're saying that if God doesn't come through in the way you have come to expect, then there are no aspects of your faith that make it worth keeping.
ok, the the infallable KJV Matthew 24:34 says: Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled. Ok, what was that about the "Skeptics Annoited Bible"? and common sense tells you it was the generation he was speaking to, not the one who is reading it 2000 years later.
Oh I wouldn't say that it is solely on prophecy... I must have misread you. Prophecy is definately a foundation of my faith but does not rest only on it. There are other aspects that keep my faith. Such as some of the medical accuracy the Bible presents. Or the archaeological evidence (Red Sea Crossing). Or how God's words can change the lives of the worst of the worst people. Or Demon possession ( I have listen to some and I find it amazing how Jesus' name is the only way that these things are kicked out). Or just the Bible in general... when you read it... it is just written so perfect... It is hard to imagine how a God would come to the earth only to be mock and beaten just to save us... It is certainly the most humble God I have ever heard of and I want to be more like him. When you sit down and really study the Bible it is either it is the greatest lie ever told or what it says it is... the true words of God. I haven't had a rough life and I don't have a amazing testimony as others do and I thank God for the blessings he has given me. But I just wish I could be as humble and good to others as he was when he walked the earth. I continue to try to walk as he did and although I WILL stumble... I try my best and use the gifts that God has given me to help others.
Common sense would tell you to read the verse in context... the SAB lacks common sense and says that that verse is talking about the generation of Jesus (and thus states it as contradiction).
JesusDiedForU the verse I wrote came from KJV... My dad wouldnt allow any other version in the house(yeah crazy)... AND. I have read most of the bible... mathew at least 2 or 3 times. He is talking about HIS generation meaninG THIS meaning either the time he said it or the generation when Mathew was wrote. Which was still 2000 years ago....
I am sorry but that is so nonsensical...a faith that stands despite contradiction is a greater faith. When I accepted Christ, my faith in Him rose off the page, and became a living force in my life. The Christ in my life is much greater off the page then on it. Everything I think and write here come from two things, my interpretation of the text and my personal experience with Jesus Christ. Stop questioning me here...your posts are so far from being logical, articulate, etc...and I just do't want to continue on with this. Alll your questions to me were answered in my previous posts, as I explain my thoughts about what I say after I say it. And I just don't think your reading comprehension is where it needs to be to understand. ...yet here I am persisting and 'going on' with it. No really though, I'm done. I am happy to say 'you are right, I am wrong'.
Okay... -When did the sun darken? -When did the moon turn blood red? -When was Jerusalem surrounded by armies? -When did the Son of Man come down in the clouds with power and great glory? -When did the angels come to gather the elect? -When did the Jews return to Israel? The generation that sees ALL these things is the generation Christ is talking about. You will find all of these events in the chapter (Matthew 24, Mark 13, or Luke 21). Remember, reading in context is important.
Also what about in Isaiah 7:14 where it says the virigin birth child will be called Immanuel(sp?)... but he is named Jesus...
topics like this can go on forever...you have your fuck christians guys, your bible jesus preachers and your middle of the road people who dont care either way but everyone has an opinion. no one can prove if god or jesus was real or if all the bible is true or whatever. noone can prove if there is someone up there looking out for us. so why argue? no one person is right. and they will never be. arguing about it is pointless. why not just keep your discrepensies to yourself or just share them with the people who think the same way you do. unless you are trying to learn or see a new point of view... ... Why argue?
i have doubts about my religion but all i can say is that my faith is so much stronger. i don't believe in the Church as an institution, but my belief in a "higher being" has helped me in endless ways. i'm cool with your opinions, MichaelByrd1967, but why don't you chill for a minute and really know what christianity is all about. i'm not defending it or anything, but make sure that you really know about something before judging it. open your mind and see things from different perspectives to be able to really grasp it and understand. stay calm, man. peace and love.
-When did the sun darken? All the time they are called eclipses -When did the moon turn blood red? Last night the moon was red from my sisters front porch because we saw it. -When was Jerusalem surrounded by armies? theres a lot of fighting over there right now and recently -When did the Son of Man come down in the clouds with power and great glory? hasnt happened -When did the angels come to gather the elect? hasnt happened -When did the Jews return to Israel? A heck of a lot of jewish people live there now are we in the end of days ?????????
Actually Jesus has many names. But in regards to Immanuel that was more of a title. Immanuel means: "God with us" and He was.
