Most vegetarians understand that a plant is still a living thing. They choose plants over meat because plants don't have a central nervous system, therefore cutting down on the suffering and cruelty of the food they have chosen to eat.
As you said, those who want to have diet that causes no death at all to anything, would choose a diet of fruits and seeds that had fallen naturally on the ground.

Very true! I can't believe some diets say less fruit..... fruit is like a "free food" to me; it's delicious and healthy and you rarely can get too much of it.

Often times people pursue vegetarianism and veganism for the sake of doing as little harm as possible. Even in the paper you read, trees have died. There's no way to prevent suffering, but you can avoid it.
Some people stay meat eaters or vegetarians instead of going vegan because they need the additional stuff in their diet. Though really it is possible to live healthy off a vegan diet, it seems difficult.
Personally as a vegetarian, because I'm not vegan, etc. what I consume still causes harm, but in life I'm trying to prevent that still.
My goal is to harm as little as possible while being as healthy as possible.
I don't know if it's possible to sustain oneself with fruit, but I doubt it. To some degree we have to harm something to survive.

Too much fruit can be too much sugar.

It is not a lifestyle that I would personally choose. While there are many benefits to consuming fruits I also feel that it is far healthier to have a broader range of food choices.

I am an omnivore, everything in moderation. I like fruit, but there's no way I could live on it.

I am interested to know what the next level of pretentious diet will be...leaves and sticks maybe?

People already eat those things and it totally wouldn't surprise me.

Exactly. Doesn't seem very healthy to me to only eat fruit. Or leaves and sticks for that matter. Or perhaps the next pretentious diet will be grass only. Moooooo.

and well... having fruit for a craving for sweets is better than having cake :D

its always suggested to eat fruit after dinner or whatever for dessert if you need something sweet.

As a vegetarian I have to start exploring more variety of fruits and veggies.... so far the exploration has been fruitful and delicious!
