    Depends on the educational objectives.

If you wish to instill a knowledge of Bible inerrancy and creationism funds can be made readily available.

Except when non-experts become too skeptical, they might end up dead before anyone can recheck what the experts are saying. When in doubt, I go by expert consensus, unless I have a good reason to distrust it. Otherwise, I'd distrust everything I read and be constantly trying to reinvent the wheel.

The lesser educated people look upon the more educated people as elitists. I don't think it's a term of endearment, but possibly more inclined to be one of jealousy.

Fox has a double standard with wealth depending on the political views of the person. Someone like AOC should shut up she's only a waitress how dare she think she understands the world. She does not deserve her higher salary now.

Bill Gates did all the right GOP things. He found a market in need and made his wealth. But he's liberal so he's not like us he is evil. They hate him so much they use his Windows everyday to post on Facebook about it. Most of Hollywood is bad except for Tim Allen and James Woods. They made their millions in the same way but for some reason they have the right moral fiber to be rich.

But Tucker Carlson a man who gets family money is the perfect example of the hard working American. They shame people who don't like Trump and say they must hate the very concept of wealth. He earned it and you must just be too lazy to do it.

They are very socialist and anti 1% but other times 100% in favor of the elite.

Michelle Obama's nutrition campaign is one of my favorite Fox moments too. There is no politics because as Fox says itself it's wrong to bring kids into that. Literally just a women telling kids that fruits and vegetables were good. But for Fox news it's the first step on a slippy slope to socialism and only being allowed bread. There is going to be sugar taxes that will force the middle class to never have cookies again. That's what the Democrats want you know for us to not have our Christmas cookies.

The REPUBLICAN PARTY attacks on public schools is all about destroying the teachers' unions. The REPUBLICAN PARTY has been attacking union workers of any kind for DECADES, this is one more they are targeting. Why do you think that the Chamber of Commerce ( the most powerful union in the country ) and "ABC" contractors (It stands for "Associated Builders and Contractors" - another union of businessmen) donate hundreds of millions of dollars to REPUBLICAN political campaigns - to keep unions out of the workforce
    .
They want to make it illegal for workers to be union members because they don't want workers to have any voice about their pay, benefits, safety on the job, working conditions, number of hours worked, overtime pay, etc. They don't want working people to be able to stand together with like-minded views and goals ……………….. and vote accordingly to get them. Corporations, businesses, and the REPUBLICAN PARTY claim otherwise …………….. but don't listen to their words ………………………… look instead at their ACTIONS!!!!!!!!!!

They also want to custom-tailor what the students are taught ……………… to their liking and financial benefit ………………….. just like COMMUNIST DICTATORS do.

I guess pizza, hot dogs, processed, cold-meat sandwiches, and sugary cereals are better in school lunches, huh???

Mrs. Michelle Obama ………………. teaching that fruits & veggies are good for kids ………………………. what a Commie pig she is. ( <<<< this is only sarcasm - for the un-brained ) [this only applies to a couple folks on here]

I can't speak for the others but to me an elitist is someone who thinks they know what's better for me than I do. That could be their feeling of superiority that they picked up getting an education but it doesn't happen to all of us.

    Absolutely!!!
That's how you get school choice, which brings competition, improving education, and reducing the effects of racism.

How many people who have done well in school have been shot by police?

Oh, we don't have those numbers. Wonder why...

I went to all public schools and have done very well in life. VERY WELL. And as the U.S. has for decades led the world in technological advancements - those "poorly-educated" students were taught by public school teachers - as numerous scientists, astronauts, and "techies" have attested to. FOR PROFIT charter schools have only recently entered the picture and the same for "private" K-12 FOR PROFIT "schools." These new FOR PROFIT entities pop up like weeds - suddenly. A good number of them around the country have already folded because their promised "superior results" never materialized. In fact some of them outright stunk.

Let me lay an old saying used by the CEO's of this country on you (as it relates to their defense of their high pay packages) …………….. "You get what you pay for." So if we want really great teachers, (with presumably great results), the way to get them is to open FOR PROFIT schools and pay those teachers about half what a public school teacher makes??? If the CEO's argument holds any water - how does slashing teacher pay equate to better results??? I've read articles detailing some of the pay of those FOR PROFIT schools. Those teachers get paid anywhere from $20,000 to $35,000 per year. The national avg. POVERTY pay for a family of 4 is about $28,000 per year!!! What kind of intelligent teacher with good credentials would want to teach for less than poverty-level wages???

My wife taught some years ago - with a 4-year B.S. in elementary education - and the difference between then and now is that today, many "parents" are HORRIBLE PARENTS. They don't teach their kids the value of school, that they must listen to their teachers, obey the rules in school, show respect for their teachers, don't make them do homework, and some don't even know where their kids are at any given time. How many millions of kids have drug addicts for parents??? Alcoholics??? IT'S NOT ALL THE FAULT OF THE TEACHERS !!!!!!!! Even back then she had to buy school supplies out of her own pocket because of budget cuts / lack of funding. She even fed some kids out of her own pocket. NO TEACHER should have to put up with that kind of lack of essentials. Incidentally ………… she gave up teaching and moved on to something more lucrative. Got sick of the bullshit.

My idea …………… Let's S-L-A-S-H the pay of CEO's down to poverty-level, take away any support systems they have enjoyed ………………….. and see how long they stay. Same goes for any / all executives out there. Give them a taste of their own "medicine."

Lots of times. For example, there is scientific consensus that the earth is spherical and revolves around the sun, despite fierce resistance at first and some holdouts still in the Flat Earth Society. There is consensus on the Laws of Termodynamics. And there is scientific consensus by 97% of scientists that climate change is real and caused by human activity, despite the best efforts of industry scientists and lobbyists to muddy the waters.

LOL - So to paraphrase an old teacher’s saying – so if someone told you that jumping off a cliff was bad for you, you’d do it anyway shouting as you fall ‘no elitist bastard is telling me what’s good for me’…. SPLAT

It seems to me that in many cases right wingers react against some information or argument not because they have any rational reason are reasonable rebuttal but just because they don’t like what is being said and who is saying it.

So they call these people elitist and dismiss them out of hand to try and distract from their lack of counter arguments.

In the UK when ‘competition’ was introduced with education targets tied to exam results was that schools were forced to learn to the exam rather than educating to learn.

Educational stands looked good on paper but many students had not been taught to learn but just to follow instructions.

This can lead to ridged mind-sets people that hold onto a certain set of ideas and refuse to change them even when they find they cannot defend them from criticism in any rational or reasonable way.

I really can’t understand your argument here at all – I mean a well-rounded education that teaches the evils of division and racism is likely to reduce such people becoming racist but education per se does not mean someone will not be racist or reduce the possibility of people been racist against them.

I suppose you could tie it to wealth – people in richer areas are less likely to encounter the police for example but wealth isn’t necessarily connected to educational aptitude, but look at Trump.

That's so B-O-L-D of you!!! Hahaha hahaha
So that's why you're on here all the time making emotional pleas for the government to play Robin Hood? Interesante.
A legend in your own mind? Very well, then... Top of your class, let me guess, Artist? Musician? Fiction author?

It's no wonder that you are so supportive of teachers' unions; you benefited through your wife. Another way to get "free" money to the people of lower strata. Cushy job, pay above average, don't need to perform to keep your job and get scheduled pay increase... The only hard part is restraint from lashing out at the disrespectful disruptive students that can't be disciplined and will never learn under the current system, and sticking to foolhardiness in the curriculum and mission. It's a perfect setup for almost medium intelligence women who want to bring home the bacon but don't want to work for it.

So besides students doing better under a competitive system, teachers will also get selected and retained according to their performance and contribution. Imagine applying to a school where you give permission for your child to be disciplined, and subject to being kicked out if he remains a disciplinary problem! Yeah, incentive, otherwise he'd get kicked back to the POS public school.

There was a time when people went into teaching for the love of teaching children. Now it's become for the easy money falling out of the government's pockets. We need serious reform! And school choice, including private options, less governmental oversight and more parental oversight, no tenure, no unions... these are precepts for improvement.

You tout great achievements in our country - that's not because of our government school system, it's in spite of it. And the most impressive of it was back in the day, before the laughingstocks our government schools have become today. Now we're what, 26th in the world, and need H1B to stay competitive in industry??? Yikes.

I don't know why you're so jealous of high performing CEOs since you've done so VERY WELL yourself ...

Anyway, you did get one thing right, and that's the attitude and actions of parents. Another reason why we need school choice. Now! Remove that variable from the equation.

The teachers' unions are strong and a lot of people are benefiting from the handouts - not to be more productive, but to party hearty - but we've got to dismantle the mess and reform the education system. We need a system to encourage the brightest kids to reach their potential while still doing the average kids a solid and addressing the slow learners too. We can do it, we just need to bust out of the predominantly ignorant mindset of mediocrity today. There's no reason we shouldn't move up to number one in education.

    Really?

It seems to me that parents likely know little about how to run schools.

The problem with imprecise language is that people are free to make their own interpretations. While 97% of a few scientists polled may have selected that the climate is changing and human activity may be affecting it, a much smaller percentage (maybe even none) would agree that a catastrophe is looming so we must act swiftly and drastically.

That misinterpretation has been exposed and debunked.

Parents are much more invested in the success of their children than anyone else.
