In the UK, I understand that it was done a lot, especially for public school boys (a class thing I guess), until the early 1950s, when National Health said they would no longer pay for it. i think the act of circumcision came about fur very basic health reasons. it'd be awfully hard, as desert nomadic types, to keep it clean with their limited water resources. so far as i can tell, most rites, religions and tactics are born of environmental factors. like zebu cow worship of the hindus. at any rate, i think when circumcision came about was probably due to a lack of available water for cleansing their boys properly and likely nasty infections came from it. so what do they do, once the practice becomes entrenched and successful among a huge group of people? eventually it's heard that "god said so" and it goes beyond that. i think a great deal of these practices that we don't quite understand have a physical and legal practicality to it, and was thus integrated into a relgion. there's are positives and negatives to both standards, depending on where you're going to be spending your time. and while i've never been attractec to un-circed, since it's been my standard over here, my concept it RAPIDLY changing. i used to find uncirced grotesque. can't help it, it just was. it was no what i was raise seeing as a child in a family of males. but now? totally different.
